Photos notification: "A participant removed photos you added to the shared library" - which ones?
Stack Exchange

I have a shared Photos library with several participants. Once in a while I get a notification like this: "A participant removed 8 photos you added to the shared library". When I click the notification (causing it to disappear from every device), it opens Photos to the main library. There's no indication which photos were removed. When I check the "Recently Deleted" album, there are no photos there that were added by me. How can I find out what photos the notification was referring to, and/or which participant removed them ..read more

Simplest way to create a clickable list in MacOS that will cause selected programs to run

I'm looking for something which runs under MacOS that will let me do the following: Suppose I have a file called "program.list" with contents something like this: "Program 1" "/usr/local/bin/program 1" "Program 2" "/usr/local/bin/program 2" "Program 3" "/usr/local/bin/other-program xyz" "Program 4" "/usr/local/bin/something-else" ... etc. ... I'd like to feed this file to a program which, for example, could be called "run-from-list", and which I could invoke as follows: run-from-list program.list ... and when that command is invoked, the following would show up on the screen in a scrollabl ..read more

Need to convert very long (multiple A4 stacked vertically) screen captures into a series of PDFs
Stack Exchange

I used the Nimbus screenshot extension to capture very long (multiple scrollable pages) content in browser, and saved all such in PNG format (let's say A4 width X many A4 heights). I have done for approx 50-60 PNGs. I would now like to export each PNG into a PDF file, properly sized (multiple pages, standard page sized). I could do this by going "the long way" (open each PNG in Preview -> Print to PDF), but I need to deal with a lot of PNGs, making this manual process very lengthy. Is there any CLI available (imagemagick, pdftkinter, etc.) allowing me to batch process this (and how - parame ..read more

How can I mount a TimeMachine Backup snapshot in the Terminal via mount_apfs?
Stack Exchange

I backup my Apple Silicon Mac (running macOS Sonoma) to an external, directly attached drive via Time Machine. All backup snapshots on that external drive I can list via $ ls -1 /Volumes/.timemachine/<GUID>/ (<GUID> is here a long hexadecimal number identifier.) In this directory are all the snapshots, for example /Volumes/.timemachine/<GUID>/2024-03-14-123547.backup However inside the snapshot folder is no accessible Data directory. So I think I need to mount the snapshot before I can access its data in the Terminal. So I tried $ mkdir ~/TM_Backup $ mount_apfs -s com.a ..read more

Adding unmodified originals to new Photos library causes inexplicable error

Steps to reproduce: Open existing Photos library Export unmodified originals Close and reopen Photos, holding the option key Create a new library Select all the unmodified originals and drag them into the new library This should all be perfunctory, but when I do this the photos/videos start being added to the new Photos library and about 10% of the way in it errors with: Some items cannot be added to your Photo library because they may be an unrecognisable file format or the file may not contain valid data. This is on a 2023 MBP with plenty of free disk space and the latest macOS Sonoma 14 ..read more

List of all entitlements on Apple systems

Is there a list of all entitlements, past and present, recognized on macOS and all other Apple operating systems? Or a list that covers at least half of them? I can't find one anywhere and the entitlement database tool is unusable. If there isn't one, then would I be able to find a list of all of them inside AppleMobileFileIntegrity.kext/Contents/MacOS/AppleMobileFileIntegrity ..read more

My Mac mini M1 mit Sonoma 14.3.1 shows wrong date and time: 10th of April [correct date: 13th of April] 22:52 [correct time: 00:24] System set do auto time settings with correct time Zone. Restart didn't change anything. Time server set to default. If I switch to Manual, the system uses the new date/time. As soon as I switch back to auto, the system immediatly shows the wrong date and time. Any hints? Additionally,I right now remember, that the system shows for some weeks (?) 0:00 on the login screen just after system boot ..read more
