The move to Friday night was to avoid a clash with Scotland’s game with Cyprus on Saturday, a hope that they could also increase on their average of 591, currently the lowest in the league. Edinburgh offers a lot for the nocturnal visitors - unfortunately a trip out to Meadowbank probably doesn’t figure in the top 20. As the teams took the field, the crowd of around 500 huddled together under the single stand, trying to stay out of the swirling rain ..read more

Task number one was to find Cremonese on the map. Well, you can't. They hail from the city of Cremona, Lombardy, not to be confused with the town of Crema, Lombardy, just a twenty minute drive up the road. Task number two - find a suitable game to attend - with a relatively small capacity stadium (20,600), and an easily accessible location from the major cities in the north of Italy (Milan, Turin, Bologna, Florence), tickets for some games would be at a premium, as well as one that could be reached without an overnight stay. Task number three...book it ..read more

Thursday 2nd March 2023 7pm – The Icelandic League Cup – Origovöllurinn, Reykjavik It was never my intention when booking a trip to Iceland as a Christmas present for The Current Mrs Fuller that football would be on the agenda. Come on, it is still in the depths of winter in these parts, the season ..read more

unior teams. Brentford are one of the growing number of professional clubs that has abandoned the concept of a traditional academy, putting focus and resource into their B team which is used as a recruitment vehicle for players who have been released at the end of that U23s season. They then invest time and resource at polishing some of those unseen diamonds ..read more

Having taken more than a reasonable amount of wrong terms on our walk, we finally arrived and did the customary "window shopping" of the merchandise stands outside the ground. Either the Udinese fans were fickle or it was the trend in these parts to buy merchandise for a host of other clubs when you came to a game. Inter, Milan, Juve, Roma and Lazio scarves were on sale, but not quite as bizarre as in the official club shop where they had Bolton Wanderers, Welsh Rugby and Hellas Verona, tonight's opposition, shirts on sale ..read more

We parked the question until we had indulged in lunch and then approached a few locals, who we guessed were going to the game and asked. It was a little awkward and I'm sure a few may have thought we were angling for a lift (we were) but the overall consensus was that everyone's mate, who hadn't yet arrived at the pub, would be driving. So, taxi it was then ..read more

Being winter sport season, flights were plentiful to Turin, meaning a day return was less than £50 when originally booked. Yes, it was a 3.30am start for the 6.20am flight, and yes I had to endure a full flight back at 8.30pm with groups sharing videos of their mogul-jumping, off-piste gnarliness (I am just jealous after an ankle injury when I was 22 has precluded me wearing anything like a ski boot since), but it was worth it. Turin is a fantastic city - sitting somewhere between Milan and Florence in terms of looking down your nose at your battered, yet designer, trainers, whilst having just ..read more

Friday 25th November 2022 10pm – The FIFA World Cup – Al Bayt Stadium, Doha (just) Ah the best laid plans. The decision to leave Khalifa and not trying to get in at half-time meant I was on a bus heading north to Al Bayt at 7:45pm. Plenty of time for the 30 mile journey ..read more

Friday 25th November 2022 7pm – The FIFA World Cup – Stadium Khalifa, Doha If the walk from the Metro drop off at the Al Thumami was long (1 3/4 miles) then the trek to the bus park was even longer. I’d manage to clock up 10,000 steps just getting to and from the public ..read more
