Ask any thru-hiker, and they’ll tell you that the experience of completing a long-distance trail can be addictive. Our bodies crave the freedom of backpacking, the daily exercise of hiking, the camaraderie of trail life, and the simple pursuit of a destination. It’s what draws people back to the trail again and again. And it’s the subject matter of the documentary The Range of Light.
Shot by Paul “Pie” Ingram (aka @pieonthetrail) in 2019, this film follows him and his two friends, Danielle “Sonic” Vilaplana and Josh “Cheesebeard” Tippett, as they embark on a journey through California’s Sierr ..read more

On backcountry hunts, battery energy is oh-so-precious. What you carry back there is all you’ve got. In an age where our smartphones have become our main GPS units, battery energy is something I don’t mess around with.
I’ve used a nearly endless list of charging blocks, but none of them — and I mean none of them — come close to the Dark Energy Poseidon Pro. Its combination of waterproofness, crazy durability, and dependability makes it everything I want and often more than I need.
In short: Hunters looking for one charging block — and one charging block only — will be very pleased with the Po ..read more

DirecTV is promoting its latest no-dish-needed coverage of baseball with an ad campaign featuring the famous fireballer converting old satellite dishes into miniature ballparks — made especially for birds! What’s more, you can win a dish-based ballpark — or a “Millet Mullet,” like the props used in the ad.

Check it out — using a car cover is marvelous for several reasons. They’re a bree ..read more

The Mega Cruiser is the largest 4×4 Toyota has ever built. Its primary purpose was for military, police, and fire/rescue duties, while just a few were made for civilians.
This vehicle is similar to the H1 Hummer, but with Toyota reliability and Japanese style built in.

The Mega Cruiser was sold in Japan only, from 1996 to 2002. Around 3,000 were built, with only around 133 for civilian use.
Left-hand-drive (LHD) ones are the most rare. Somewhere between seven and 12 LHD were ever made from the factory.

While this hiking trail may have an attractive name, it’s anything but popular among many Hawaiians. Oahu’s Ha‘ikū Stairs, otherwise known as the “Stairway to Heaven” hiking trail, will be permanently removed over the next 6 months. State and local officials made the decision last week. The goal of the removal is to finally stop the flow of tourists hiking the trail illegally.
Originally built in 1947 to access a military radio station, the stairs have been officially closed since 1987. But heavy use has continued nevertheless, and in recent years it has ballooned. The trail includes 3,922 st ..read more
