Like many people, I welcomed the start of the new year with open arms. 2020 was tumultuous, painful, and lonely, and while 2021 will be far from easy, I am entering the new year feeling hopeful. Here’s a rapid recap of my 2020, and a few updates for 2021: I started off the year having my best marathon build-up to date - healthy training, strong long runs, fast workouts. I entered the 2020 Olympic Trials Marathon in February feeling fit, confident, and ready for a top 10 performance and a personal best. Alas, neither of those goals came to fruition; in the first mile of the race, on an overly c ..read more

Hello from the start of Month 3 of dealing with the COVID-19 Pandemic… such uncertain times we’re living in. With more time on my hands as I’m staying at home (as I hope you are too!), I decided to do some Quarantine Baking and got creative in the kitchen. These Oatmeal Apple Banana Muffins are quick, easy, healthy, and the star ingredient is from one of my favorite food companies, Picky Bars! I paired two muffins with a yogurt to refuel after my run today; they make a great mid-morning snack to hold you over between meals. I had to get creative with this recipe based on what I had in my kitc ..read more

Cue the music… it’s the final countdown to the Olympic Trials Marathon! The work is done, the miles run, the workouts complete — the hay is in the barn, as we runners are fond of saying. And on Saturday, February 29, the 700+ men and women who have qualified for the Trials will have the opportunity to reap the rewards of all this training and chase one of the three coveted Olympic marathon berths. I am thrilled to be toeing the line in my 4th Olympic Trials event and am eager to CELEBRATE the past 12 years of training that have led to this weekend! :) Here’s all the details on the race: When ..read more

5 weeks to go! Counting down the weeks til #Atlanta2020

As we approach the end of January, it’s time to hunker down and work hard, getting in the remaining big workouts and long runs ahead of #Atlanta2020. To get a gauge of where I’m at fitness-wise, I headed down to Naples, Florida for a half marathon last Sunday, January 19. Running in warmer temps than I’m used to up here in New England winter - with humidity to boot - I felt a Florida race would be a good test run simulating what are sure to be warm, humid conditions in Atlanta next month. And the Naples Half delivered! Race day brought temps in the mid-to-upper 60s and fairly high humidity, w ..read more

Training The countdown to Atlanta 2020 continues. We’ve had a bit of Atlanta-like weather this week, with record-high temps all across New England last Sunday — great for marathon training, not so great for our warming planet... But we marathoners took full advantage of the temps. I cruised a hilly long run on the Boston Marathon course with B.A.A. teammates Allie and Michaela Hackett and my friend/athlete I coach and fellow Adidas runner Amanda Nurse. This was one of my better 20 milers of any marathon buildup I’ve done and I was encouraged by how good I felt. Post-run I got brunch and refuel ..read more

I’ve been noticeably absent on the ole blog over here the past 2 years - life got busy, what with finishing grad school, joining the BAA, getting hurt, getting a puppy… also, I’d mostly switched away from long-form content on the blog to sharing shorter running updates via Instagram. So, the blog has been laying dormant… But with the Olympic Trials Marathon just 7 weeks away, it feels like the right time to bring the blog back for a bit for the few of you still reading (hi Mom!). Inspired by my friend Ali’s return to writing, I thought I’d give it a shot too. So here we go - I’ll be sharing a ..read more

It’s been a while since I’ve written anything over here on the blog… quite a while in fact! In the midst of grad school madness (no free time!) followed by a devastating injury in summer of 2018, I didn’t have a lot I wanted to share on the blog. I mostly stuck Instagram to share what I’ve been up and avoided the long-form content…. but 2 years later, we’re back! The blog makes a comeback as I wanted to share a special project I’ve been working on: Safe on the Road. Safe on the Road is an education and advocacy nonprofit promoting pedestrian and cyclist safety on our streets and encouraging en ..read more
