The gender pay gap reporting deadline is just around the corner. For many businesses, it presents the perfect opportunity to reflect on existing diversity and inclusion (D&I) practices when it comes to gender equality. That’s because, despite great strides in businesses’ efforts to improve equality, results from 2022’s report submissions found that women still earn 14.9% less than men – meaning there’s still an incredibly long way to go. What can HR learn from the BBC vs. Gary Lineker?

As an avid football fan, the fallout created by a Twitter post from Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker was incredible to watch. Following his tweet, which detailed his thoughts on the Government’s asylum policies, he was asked to ‘step back’ from presenting Match of the Day because the BBC believed his tweet broke their impartiality guidelines, and was thus in breach of his contract. However, what I doubt the BBC could have imagined was the cascade of chaos this caused. Lineker’s tweet became the focus of intense national debate. His enforced break from presenting was also met with deris ..read more

There’s no denying that the acceptance of remote and hybrid working has been embraced by most employees. But, it seems that not everyone believes the shift in how and when we work has been entirely beneficial – especially when it comes to health and wellbeing. For example, a new report by GRiD found that two thirds of employers (64%) believed that hybrid and remote working has had a positive impact on their employees’ health and wellbeing: however, only 53% of employees agreed with that assessment. Perhaps more concerning though, was the fact that that some employers (6%) and employees (7%) fe ..read more

Given the grim economic climate, rise in resenteeism, and changing attitudes towards work post-pandemic, it may come as no surprise to find that over 88% of UK employees have experienced burnout in the past two years. Take a glance at the stats for HR professionals, however, and that number skyrockets even further to 98%; an astounding – and deeply concerning – statistic. Why is HR burnout such a problem? There’s no denying that it’s been a tough few years for the entire workforce; from having to rapidly adapt to new (often remote) working practices, to tackling the personal impact of a cost-o ..read more

First it was the Great Resignation, then quiet quitting. Now, it seems that ‘resenteeism’ is the latest trend that has piqued HR’s attention. It follows hot on the heels of ‘quiet quitting’ – a term coined for when employees have become disengaged from their employer, and will only be prepared to meet their contractual obligations – no more, no less. With resenteeism however, employees have gone beyond just doing the bare minimum – they actively dislike their jobs, feel frustrated with their work or employer, and trapped in their role. What makes this new form of disengagement a potential wor ..read more
