Is the Qualcomm QCC730 a big deal for IOT?

I’m new to IOT but recently saw that the Qualcomm QCC730 gives wifi capabilities at an 88% reduction of power usage. This may be a silly question but is that a big deal? If yes, what kind of new capabilities does it allow for that weren’t possible before? Thanks for any insight. submitted by /u/lifelifebalance [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Battery question for low power IOT device (about LIR2032)

I'm making solar powered IOT device and I'm not sure if LIR2032 can be connected just like normal lipo battery pack. As I understand, it's just lithium ion battery in coin shape. But then I'm not sure how solar power manager would think about it. Any advise? submitted by /u/Separate_Wave1318 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

What problems do you think a BLE+Lorawan Asset Tracker beacon would run into

I am trying to build a BLE and Lorawan Asset Tracker. The idea being BNE could be used for precision tracking using AoA and AoD and Lorawan will be used to track it when outdoors. I was thinking of putting this on dogs collar so the gateway should cover enough distance and I would not need to pay monthly service for GSM and GPS. Does anyone have a better idea or could tell me what practical problems I may run into beforehand. Thanks! submitted by /u/blahblehblehblah [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

IoT sauna advice

I'm working on a network-connected sauna solution. The main board has an Atmega328P and MCP23017 for expansion (2 pins for I2C OLED, 4 input buttons for menu controls via oled, 4 temp/humudity sensor inputs, 5 relay outputs for heaters, 1 door sensor input and a few for different RGB leds) I want the board to be modular - so some saunas can be standalone (without the networking board), and they work with just an atmega and screen - full manual controls As an add-on I want to create a web UI for the client, so they can adjust the temperature, humudity, lights etc. I was thinking of adding a R ..read more

Cellular IoT for everyone: open source ESP32 based multi-radio cellular module (LTE-M, NB-IoT, GNSS, WiFi, BLE)

This year on Embedded World 2024 we had our booth in the M2M area. It is clear that cellular IoT is really growing and the technology is maturing. It is also clear that the suppliers are focussing on large volume projects only. The reason is that certification of multi-radio modules is very expensive and you need a volume of at least 50k products a year to justify the expense. At the same time I believe that there are lots of use cases where cellular is a perfect fit but the volume only reaches between a few hundred to a few thousands of devices a year. I'm thinking of remote weather stat ..read more
