Apologies, this may be paywalled, but there is a decent update about Patrick. Mostly focused on his challenges in transitioning into a future career. Also, another baby on the way! https://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/article-as-figure-skater-patrick-chan-retires-hes-struggling-to-stick-the/ submitted by /u/intheskinofalion1 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

What's the wildest program you know?

Just came across this gem of a program from German ice dancers Zhiganshina/Gazsi. https://youtu.be/SqRywdhLoKk?feature=shared They're zombies. Featuring a spider hairpiece, music with cries both of the human and the rooster kind, and just. Fun bold costumes and acting and choreography! I loved it and now I'm wondering what else is out there when it comes to insane programs? Please share, the world needs to see unhinged figure skating! submitted by /u/zayarii [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Bit of off-season fun: skating themed stamps

Was excited to find out there are so many sports themed stamps. Made a separate section dedicated to winter sports and skating - thought the sub would appreciate it :) https://preview.redd.it/1mid9n54awwc1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=972b2b7c92e27f9aa27c6cdd976c56a2db46ecfe https://preview.redd.it/huyulq54awwc1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=d070c6548af2ea0f8d131a1e352fd493b28941d7 submitted by /u/m3ry_chan [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Why are Tanos and Rippons Making A Comeback?
Reddit » Figure Skating

I thought ISU stopped counting these arm positions in their GOE criteria after a certain coach made her students use it in every jump as a point grabbing tool and as a distraction from the blades (ie. to take focus away from egregious pre rotation and incorrect edges). They look nice when it’s done with proper extended arms (eg. Loena) but there are many barely there tanos/rippons among the field. I was a bit shocked while watching Worlds that it’s gaining prevalence again. submitted by /u/Sumdayz8_9 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Level for change of foot executed by jump
Reddit » Figure Skating

Seeing as there seems to be a new rule limiting difficult variations counted in a single spin to 2, I’m trying to come up with new combo spins for the next season. I’m wondering if a change of foot executed by a jump counts for the first foot, or for the landing foot? (Since only two levels are awarded on each foot in a combo spin) submitted by /u/Little-Race1769 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

It’s the only double (other than axel) I can’t do, does anyone have this same issue? I have a friend who just says she doesn’t practice toes because they never work. My issue is I throw myself in the air, I’m always fully rotated but I always land leaning back. I think others have different issues, but is it just me or is toe one of the hardest jumps to actually grasp? submitted by /u/Legitimate_Coat_3494 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
