How much physicality do you tolerate in your rec league ?

I recently joined a rec league where guys are not bad, but not great. All decent athletes, but not necessarily from the basketball world. It's so fucking physical it's ridiculous. If you drive, you're getting hard fouled / slashed / bodied guarantee. If you steal the ball and are on a breakaway, the guy jumps for you, not the ball. After getting slammed on a breakaway I decided to step in power layup and pause a second before trying the layup, I got checked like it was a hockey game. They respect the call, at least, but it's weird. Just wondering if your leagues are like that or not ? Fouls ..read more

im asking this question becuase in my neighbourhood there lives this pro player and in that area there is only one halfcourt so me and him have to share. that wouldnt be a problem if this guy wasnt really mean. for example if my ball rolls to him the normal response would be to pass it back and that is what ill do, but he will just punt it to the other side of the court, or when he has a rebounder he would tell him to not pick up my ball even though i will just pass it to them nicely. and something that really annoys me is that when he misses he will start screaming and cussing in a dang neig ..read more

I once saw a guy’s leg (Tibia) bone came out of the skin and i was damn traumatized for weeks. He jumped and someone from behind accidentally slipped causing a domino effect. It was so gross that even the cameraman from the league had to stopped filming out of nausea and vomiting. The player recovered but hang up his jerseys and didn’t went back to playing basketball. Scared to play this one player in pick up

I don’t ever play pick up games with my friends because of this one guy. He is the best by far and I’m the second best and he’s a little shorter than me. So naturally I have to guard him, he has cooked me so much every game and I lose all my pick up games because of it. I don’t even play much anymore. I score on him a fair bit too but he gets the ball every single time and scores. My team was up 11-4 once because we thought we were going to 11 but we lost because this player scored 21 straight points on me. I’m scared to play because I feel like I will lose every matchup. submitted by /u/elp ..read more
