A several years ago, my Dell running Windows 7 suddenly stopped recognizing its product key after an update. So I had Microsoft support wipe my computer and reinstall it. I backed everything up on a hard drive, and also did a windows system image backup. But I had some encrypted files on there that I forgot to decrypt before backing it up on a hard drive. I remember on Windows 95/98 and even XP there was a built in feature that allowed to create upper utility bars with quick launch icons, adress bar or watever you wanted, while maintaining the task bar and start menu on bottom, thus having 2 bars on desktop. Because of the annoying pinned programs merge with taskbar button behavior, the only way to get rid of this taskbar wrapping itself with quick launch buttons was to completely remove pinned programs from taskbar, using desktop shortcuts only.
