Insight from an unexpected source

Today I met my friends 5y/o son for the first time at a gathering. At one point, the 5y/o taps my arm and says, with a dramatic, exaggerated sigh: "Sometimes my life is hard", and takes a pause... Then with a big grin, says "But today isn't". It did a good job at reminding me to be present in the moment - good job little buddy. submitted by /u/WilliDreamEggman [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Please don’t judge me, I have severe religious anxiety and Taoism has came into my life and it has been something that is comforting me. I have a strong belief in reincarnation, and it’s a belief that I can’t stop believing in, can I still call myself a taoist if I belive in reincarnation? Please no hate. submitted by /u/Kassieheart [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Should I read the Tao alongside an explanation on each chapter or figure things out myself?

I feel like I get so much more out of reading an explanation, but that knowledge I might get is not really mine, I'm just letting someone do the work for me. Maybe that knowledge will come with more readings on my own, that I do not know. So I'm curious as to what you think is better. Thanks in advance! submitted by /u/onepunchmanu [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Key points: The study demonstrated that high levels of expertise and the ability to reduce cognitive control are crucial for achieving flow. Experienced musicians reported higher levels of flow and creativity, correlating with specific patterns of brain activity that minimize executive control while enhancing sensory processing. The findings underscore the importance of both intensive practice and the ability to “let go” to reach the optimal creative state known as flow. submitted by /u/linuxpriest [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Making the TTC More "Real"

As a newbie, the TTC can sometimes feel abstract/out of reach. The "commentary" section of the site below has helped make it more approachable/real. My fave so far is chapter 64, e.g., "The more I lay hold of the ideal of a perfect world, the more imperfect the world appears. Thus, what I lay hold of becomes the source of my greatest sorrow. The looser my hold on life, the more I enjoy it." I translate this to my everyday experience as "I have become emotionally attached to making my backyard 'perfect' and now all I see are the flaws and imperfections. I no longer enjoy my backyard. Poor sleep

Hi guys, I've been having good times and peaceful times living up to my Taoist values, I can let go, relax, be true to my nature spontaneously, be kind to others and other things. Now my job sometimes involves not getting adequate amount of hours to sleep, by which my emotional balance gets a little thrown off, being tired it becomes easier for me to be irritable or sad, making me less resilient to life's stresses. This issue isn't something that affects my daily life, family life or professional life in general as I can still maintain a good frame/ posture and manners, but if does affect my ..read more
