Charles-Édward Gravel earned a 26-save shutout as the Baie-Comeau Drakkar cruised to a 4-0 win over the Cape Breton Eagles in Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League playoff action on Thursday. Raoul Boilard, Justin Poirier, Justin Gill and Louis-Charles Plourde scored for Baie-Comeau, which took a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven semifinal series. Gavin McKenna scored twice in the span of one minute and 45 seconds in the first period as Canada opened with a 6-3 win over Sweden on Thursday at the world men’s under-18 hockey championship. Hockey Canada completed its 25-player roster for the upcoming world men’s under-18 hockey championship Tuesday with the addition of forward Tij Iginla. The 17-year-old son of Hockey Hall of Famer forward Jarome Iginla had 47 goals and 84 points in 64 games with the Western Hockey League’s Kelowna Rockets this season. He added nine goals and 15 points in 11 playoff games before Kelowna was defeated 4-1 by the Prince George Cougars in the second round. The good news keeps rolling in for David Carle. USA Hockey announced Tuesday that the native of Anchorage, Alaska, will return to coach the 2025 world junior team after guiding the squad to a gold medal this year. Carle, 34, recently coached the University of Denver to its second national title in the past three seasons.
