[This story was contributed by one of our readers, a practicing Financial Consultant]
“Come in, Alan.”
I didn’t know quite what to expect.
It was a warm Friday afternoon, and I had found Madam Zaleha’s unit after 10 minutes of walking.
Pushing open the heavy, weighted door, I saw a calm, smiling lady seated on a couch.
She seemed to carry herself with hope and a great deal of self esteem, instead of someone despondent after losing a limb.
We sat down and spoke for the rest of the afternoon, and here is her story.
How I found her
It was during a typical prospecting call, wh ..read more

“Curiousity killed the cat” is an oft quoted idiom, with negative connotation towards exploration of the unknown.
Yet the second half (and commonly missing) of the idiom also goes: “But Satisfaction brought it back”.
One of our readers pointed out to us that NTUC Income makes their claims statistics available for viewing, and that triggered all our curiousity tendencies.
What sort of demographic would make up the most common claims?
Are people claiming more these days?
And what are people claiming for?
Join us as we delve into the numbers, and let curiousity get the better ..read more

2023 has barely begun and Financial Anxiety is already reaching fever pitch.
Mortgage rates are rising like a balloon on a windless day, and scores of home owners and tenants are feeling the pinch of ever increasing monthly payments and rental fees. Foreclosures are surging too, in case the picture isn’t bleak enough.
Stemming from the Federal Reserve hiking interest rates (450 basis points since March 2022 till now) to combat runaway inflation, there seems to be no end of the bad news.
Tech giants are mercilessly slashing jobs and perks to tame their excessive spending habits during th ..read more

Mistakes happen.
All the time. Just google “Chinese Spy Balloon over USA” if you happen to have cut off contact with the outside world for the past week or so.
Balloon, meet F22 Raptor
Regardless of where your geopolitical inclinations lie, we can all agree the whole matter was a mistake and could have the potential to be settled amicably, or escalate into something far worse.
Same for your insurance.
You could have bought something in the past without too much scrutiny, and how its looking like more and more of a mistake. A mistake that you want to handle, before it blows up i ..read more

What is MediShield Life? What does it cover?
It is a basic health (hospitalization) insurance scheme that provides Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents with universal and lifelong protection against large healthcare bills, regardless of age or health condition(s).
MediShield Life works by pooling financial resources from individuals in similar age cohorts, so we can each pay a smaller premium and not have to worry about a large healthcare bill. (This is also the basic principle of Insurance – risk pooling and transference)
To claim against your policy, you must stay in a ho ..read more

We kick off the year by taking a close look at something that everyone should really know about when buying (most) insurance policies.
This knowledge could be the difference between a successful claim – or a disappointing rejection.
Let’s go!
What is a Waiting Period?
A waiting period is the minimum period that an insured must wait before some (or all) of their policy benefits come into effect.
Should there be a claim made before the waiting period is up, the insurers may reject the claim outright.
If this is the first time you have heard of this term, fret not – most peop ..read more

There is no denying it: Cancer is expensive
More accurately, Cancer Treatment is expensive, and it is fast outgrowing the cost of all other drugs.
The MediShield Life Council, a group responsible for managing a healthcare insurance program in Singapore, has informed the Ministry of Health that cancer drug spending has been increasing at a rate of 20% per year, while spending on other drugs has only increased by 6%.
Additionally, the number of cancer patients seeking treatment has increased, resulting in a more than 50% increase in payouts for outpatient cancer treatments, from $109 mill ..read more
