HAYWARD, Calif. (KRON) – Would-be car thieves picked the wrong man to mess with in the East Bay. The man scared them off while they were trying to steal his pick-up truck, but not before one of those suspected thieves fired a gun.

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- A new animal is coming to the San Francisco Zoo. Mayor London Breed announced Thursday that giant pandas will be added to the zoo as part of China’s Panda Diplomacy program.
Breed is currently overseas in Beijing, where she and Chinese officials announced the news. The memorandum signed by Breed and the China Wildlife Conservation Association is the first official leased agreement to have pandas live at the zoo, according to Breed's office.

(KRON) -- Three Alameda Police Department officers were charged with involuntary manslaughter for the death of Mario Gonzalez, Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price announced Thursday. Gonzalez died in 2021 while being restrained by officers.
The DA's office's Public Accountability Unit filed the charges against officers Eric McKinley, James Fisher and Cameron Leahy. If convicted, they face a sentence of four years in state prison, Price said.

(KRON) -- A former Leigh High School student is suing a South Bay school district and a teacher who she claims impregnated her when she was 15. The woman, identified in court documents as "Jane Doe," filed a civil lawsuit this week against Campbell Union High School District and Leigh High School school teacher Shawn Thomas.
Thomas, 56, of Los Gatos, forced Jane Doe to receive an abortion after she became pregnant with his baby in 2003, according to the lawsuit. She was 15 years old at the time. The woman is now in her mid-30s and she recently contacted law enforcement authorities for the ..read more

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- Thursday marked the anniversary of the 1906 earthquake and fire that devastated San Francisco, killing 3,000 people. It’s been more than a century since then and a lot of lessons have been learned when it comes to being prepared for a quake.

(FOX40.COM) -- The four people who were killed in a crash in Manteca on Saturday night have been identified, according to the San Joaquin County Coroner's Office.
The victims of the fatal crash included Arriaga Negrete, 44, Liliana Mendoza, 40, Jorge Guerrero, 12, and David Guerrero, who was four months old. All of the individuals were residents of Livermore located in Alameda County.

(BCN) -- BART will run its legacy fleet of rail cars for the last time on Saturday. According to the transit agency, there will be a celebration event at MacArthur station in Oakland that will open to the public starting around noon. There will be a raffle of memorabilia, BART merchandise sales, food trucks, activity tables, and more.
