Well… the materials bit is easy, as that’s always my clients old jewellery, but where do I start on the tools? A goldsmiths tools are like their babies. They’re part of you…an extension of your hands. I might make small things, but achieving that involves a whole host of tools ..read more

Today’s March Meet The Maker prompt is supposed to be about colour, but I’m going to do my own thing…
March is B Corp month, and yesterday, I found that that I’m currently the only B Corp in the Forest of Dean, which I’m really quite shocked about.
There are over 2400 (and growing) B Corps in the UK and around 50 in Gloucestershire, but just little old me in the Forest of Dean!!
It means that I’m also the “first” Forest B Corp, which I guess is something to celebrate, but being the only one really isn’t! So come on Forest businesses, you need to pull your socks up and get working on your cert ..read more

Earlier last year I made quite a big decision…to only work with metals that I know have definitely been recycled from old jewellery. “Recycled” gold and silver that carried that badge has been available to buy from bullion dealers for many years now, and I was buying that metal, just accepting that it was actually 100% recycled ..read more

I’m liking how this year’s March Meet The Maker isn’t on every day. It means I’m not spending every evening worrying that I haven’t written tomorrow morning’s post! Anyway, prompt number 2 is STYLE, so something I can quite easily waffle on about for a bit!I think my style has evolved over the years, but my textured surfaces and wavy edged pieces of jewellery have become quote recognisable that they’re ‘mine ..read more

Every March, 1000’s of designers/makers/artists/crafts people etc take part in a social media challenge called March Meet The Maker. It’s been running for many years now and I’ve taken part for probably most of those. This year, I’m putting it on my blog and the first prompt of 2025 is Brand Re-identity ..read more

Yesterday, I was reminded of a couple of things… 1. Artists can often be terrible business people, and 2. My “job” is so much more than just something I do to earn money ..read more

Hi and I hope you’ve been having a good week. As I start my new round of commissions, this week for me has been mainly about client meetings and drawings. So much so, that I haven’t had much of a chance to think about my blog, or post on social media. I’m determined to keep up my “blog-momentum“ though ..read more

As you probably know by now, I’ve made the decision to only use recycled metals that I know have come from your own old jewellery. But what if you don’t have any old jewellery? Well, you do still have some options if you’d like me to make a special piece for you ..read more

It’s that time of year when the summer and next autumn event booking emails start to land in my inbox and if I’m honest, I’m in a bit of a quandary about what to do. Selling / promoting yourself at “event’s” is just the default “done thing” when it comes to creative small business, especially one in the jewellery industry, but is it really necessary or even the right thing to do for “my” business ..read more

I’ve just sent out my second (and last) commissions reminder ready for my list opening again on Friday. You need to be on my mailing list to receive the commissions link, but I included some useful pricing information(correct for February 2025) in the email that I thought I’d also share here for anyone that might be thinking of a future commission ..read more
