Hello, we have an above ground pool with a PT deck on the end, at this time, we have a ladder(tubular sides) that mount thru a hole into the deck. I am doing the deck over this year and instead of drilled holes for the tubular ladder, I thought we might go with the type of steps that good into the pool. Couple of questions: Do u take those steps/stairs out when you vacuum pool? Do u take those steps out for closings (Massachusetts) How easy is it to take out? Do they wreck floor of pool? And most important, can you recommend one and where to buy? Thank you Barry ..read more

AG filter question for winter.

I have always drained my filter and pump and stored in my shed for the "Massachusetts" winter. But, lugging the filter in is sometimes a pain, and risk breaking something. I just bought a new Haywood S210 sand filter. Any suggestions on either keeping it out and covering or lugging it back in the shed? Thanks Barry ..read more

Hayward S210T

I bought a Hayward S210 filter last Friday and installed it. When I turned it on it had a small leak on top of filter. From what I read it might be the O-ring on the shaft. I emailed Hayward and the pool store about it, but got no reply. Since it is a new filter I was wondering who is reponsuble to make it right?,,, Hayward or pool store? And would they send me a new valve , which would be easier, since it took me all day to set up Thanks Barry ..read more

I have a Jacuzzi Laser sand filter, Model 190L, it is about 25 years old. I have developed a pin hole leak in the body itself, and attempting to seal it with flex seal, until I can get a new one. The local pool store stated they get around $540 for a new Hayward S210, which they say is what i need for my above ground 33 x 15 pool. I just bought a new pump last year, so only would need the filter. I was trying to find just the Jacuzzi filter body (Part # 9408-3664, but no luck. Few questions Any other solution on patching up the old body? Any other product to seal.? Anybody know if or where I c ..read more

Chlorine Source?
The PoolForum

The cost of chlorine has doubled. Home Depot 2 gallon boxes are around $12. Walmart 1 gallon bleach is around $6. i made the mistake before of using stabilized chlorine and needed to drain my pool. It's huge. I don't want to do that again. My chlorine/PH are good. My alkalinity/hardness are high and my cyanuric acid is low. I started using granular calcium hypochlorite to sanitize and added a couple of floaties with trichlor to raise the cyanuric acid. I'll stop the floaties when the cyanuric acid is good. Water is clear. Pool has some deposits, but I don't care. I'm not sure if there is a ..read more

Help with new skimmer

My skimmer cracked so we decided to replace the whole skimmer assembly. We have a waterways skimmer. It is an above ground pool. We lowered the water level below the skimmer, took the old skimmer and plates off, and replaced with a new one. When we put the water level back up and turned the pump on water was pouring out from the new skimmer. What did we do wrong and what should we try to fix this ..read more

No vac to waste, maybe looking at a "trash pump"? Need suggestions

Hi all, Been quite a while since my last activity here. So glad this forum (and Ben) are still around! Pool is a 17x33 inground with a Hayward DE filter. The perennial problem is getting out the sludge in the bottom this time of year. I've kept out most of the leaves and branches with a net overwinter, but the algae I've killed with algacide is now sitting on the bottom (along with the tree debris that slipped through the net). In the past I've futilely tried to vacuum it out but it clogs the DE filter so quickly I might recharge it four or five times before it's cleared. The Hayward doesn ..read more

Lubricant Types
The PoolForum

Hi All. I am going to install a couple of New Diverters on my J350. To help them rotate a little easier/smoother, I plan to lubricate them with either a Teflon based, or a Silicon based lubricant. I have read that Teflon is slicker but washes away a little easier, and that Silicon stays in place longer, but is harder to work with. So.... my question is..... which type of lubricant would be best to use? Teflon or Silicon? This questions would apply to lubricating swimming pool items as well. Thanks ..read more

I've started updating hardware and software and am working toward the goal of a PoolForum reboot, with a new approach. Old.Poolforum foundered under the weight of + A morass of imperfect answers, ranging from less than ideal to just plain bad. + A bunch of calcified ideas that I'd gone along with, for example "BBB method" never really reflected my thinking, but was 'close enough'. + Security issues that left me spending more time on the back end (fending off hackers and spammers) then on the front end, answering questions. + And most of all, a lack of standard answers to standard questions ..read more
