Last week, I went for an incredibly hot, humid and intense run at lunch. It was my first time doing 800 meter repeats in ages and damn, I forgot how hard those are. Woof. I got home, drenched as though I’d just hopped out of the shower, and immediately saw a text from a friend saying “marathon officially canceled.” I’ve said multiple times that I expected the marathon to be canceled, but there was definitely a large piece of me that secretly thought the race would go on. It was in Utah after all, and they seem to make their own rules. I watched several races happen just recently in Utah so I h ..read more

Refueling and Recovering After the Long Run

This post is sponsored by Biochem  I had an 18 mile long run this weekend with 43.5 miles total for the week. That said, I have to be mindful of fueling and re-fueling. For some runners, this isn’t especially high mileage, but it’s sufficiently more than I typically run throughout the year. While I’m ravenous most days, I usually have very little appetite after a long run. My stomach just isn’t ready to take in a big meal, but I know how important it is to consume quality protein after a long or hard run. I’ve been very diligent about this in recent years and I think it’s the reason I’ve ..read more

It feels weird to skip over everything happening in our country at the moment to talk about running. But it’s the one thing that is getting me through this emotional hurricane. I said to a friend today, thank god my drug of choice is endorphins. It’s in my blood to turn to drugs or alcohol in times of crisis or despair. Instead, I lace up or clip in and leave it all in a puddle of sweat. I decided a few weeks back to train for the St. George Marathon. I ran it a few years ago and PR’d with a 3:13. I am fairly confident it will be canceled like every other race on the continent, but it’s not st ..read more

Being homebound for almost three months now, Johnna and I were craving a weekend outdoors, under the stars. We have this secret little spot off the beaten path in Mount Laguna where we usually pull of the road and set up camp. We had visions of hiking, grilling (we’ve gotten really into grilling during qurantine), laying in our hammocks and sleeping in our brand new tent. Our dreams were immediately crushed as we attempted to make our way up the mountain. The road was barricaded off. We made our way to the other side of the mountain, did a short hike and tried to find a campsite, to no avail ..read more

It’s been a long, long time since I’ve blogged. Ever since Instagram came along, blogging has become less and less relevant. Blogs in general seemed to become less personal and authentic in their content. Bloggers became brands and blog posts were just a way to sell something. Slowly, I became uninterested and walked away. But lately I’ve been wanting to come back. I’ve felt the urge to write like I used to, in diary form. Just share my day to day happenings, thoughts and feelings. I won’t be sharing links on social channels to get more blog views. Instead, I’ll keep it a little secret. If any ..read more
