What's the Meaning Bear thee well ? From Much Ado About Nothing Act 3 Scene 1 HERO Good Margaret, run thee to the parlor. There shalt thou find my cousin Beatrice Proposing with the Prince and Claudio. Whisper her ear and tell her I and Ursula 5 Walk in the orchard, and our whole discourse Is all of her. Say that thou overheardst us, And bid her steal into the pleachèd bower Where honeysuckles ripened by the sun Forbid the sun to enter, like favorites 10 Made proud by princes, that advance their pride Against that power that bred it. There will she hide her To listen our propose. This is ..read more

Cinthio's Italian Source Material for Shakespeare's Othello and Measure for Measure

I know there is some controversy around whether Shakespeare read Cinthio's Italian source material for Othello in Italian or whether he read it in translation? Just wondering what thoughts are. Also, if he read the original is it more likely to have been the 1565 1st edition or my 1566 2nd edition or an even later edition. Sharing photos of ny copy of Cinthio's Gli Hecatommithi from which Othello was distilled. Kinda cool that I just learned in reddit that my vellum binding is probably original. Also, showing the Othello page with Desdemona being more prominent. Even if you dont read Italian ..read more

I need some help with my thesis! :)

Hi all! Unfortunately, I do not have a really solid grasp on poetry/prose conventions. However, I do want to make a point in my thesis! I am comparing the portrayal of mean girls in film to characters in historical literature, mainly the weird sisters in Macbeth and the Three Fates from Greek mythology. A scene of particular interest to me from Jawbreaker (1999) because a poem is read over a makeover scene of an unpopular girl to become a member of the clique. It seems very similar in structure and style to the Song of the Witches from Macbeth. A link to the scene from Jawbreaker is listed be ..read more

Should I ‘prep’ for Macbeth?

I’ve never seen Shakespeare live but have Macbeth tix for next week. I don’t know much about the plot tbh except that it’s a tragedy about a Scottish king and has the 3 “double double toil and trouble” witches lol ? I have seen several of the Shakespeare movies in adulthood (Midsummer Nights dream, etc) and enjoyed them. But I still struggle with the references/ language occasionally despite having a high reading comprehension level for modern language. So should I prepare or just be “surprised”? submitted by /u/TrekkieElf [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Hey everyone, I’m auditioning for a local production of Pericles and I’m looking for good audition material from any Shakespeare play. It needs to be in verse, I don’t have any specific characters in mind. Im a young guy if that helps, but I’m alright with using one for any gender/age Thanks! submitted by /u/k0dead [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
