Hi everyone! I'm Noel and I'm a filmmaker based in Toronto. Hoping to check out more of the indie forums to sorta gain some commonalities between independent filmmakers, I feel like I'm about to venture into uncharted waters soon with bigger projects on the horizon so I feel like speaking to and/or reading about some of the experiences the community has had would be great insight for me! I've written/directed/edited three previous shorts, none went above 16 minutes (and as of this writing, only one has been screened in a public setting, fingers crossed more will come). I think that's all I ha ..read more

This is just something fun that I think people might enjoy. While commercial AI filmmaking platforms are still very limited, and can't really tell stories, they can do THIS, which is fun for a minute ..read more

The Bat and the Furious (Brickfilm Short)

Tried to be a bit more ambitious this time. Took me about four hours to shoot. I wanted to try out the cameras the kids will be using, as well as try out how I want them to make backdrops using a display board and crayons. The most challenging part by far was timing things out. I had a script and a storyboard, but then I had to act out the scene a few times with a timer and multiply the time by 12 fps to figure out how long each shot needed to be. Overall, had a lot of fun with this one ..read more

Did Disney lose money on Star Wars?

I have been under the impression that the Mouse House recouped its $4 billion purchase price with the new trilogy, but this Forbes article says otherwise. I'm not up on this, but it seems that the trilogy made the money, then the subsequent movies bombed, creating the loss. In any case, considering all the problems the company is having, the Force doesn't seem to be with it ..read more

Underground animation director from the Netherlands!

Hey everybody! My name is Waldemar Schuur, or Nekrotherium as I go by on most of the internet. I make my own short animated films from start to finish, I make em in flash like a digital caveman. Usually there's some other techniques mixed in too, like stop-motion, 3D or even the occasional animatronic. I wanted to meet more creative people, and I'm tired of social media, so I decided to give this forum a go! I also fantasize about working on a live action film some day, maybe as a director, maybe as an actor, maybe as a special effects dude, who knows. Anyways, nice to meet you guys ..read more

Hey guys! I hope you are all doing well. I'm not super active on the forum but it has always been a great support for me when I needed to find PA jobs or whether or not I should stay at NYU. It's been three years, and I'm very happy that I stayed at NYU for film. I sense I'm having my little network in NY which is nice I was thinking of spending the summer in LA so I can get an idea to what it's like to live. A lot of my friends got internship for script coverage but I'm more interested in working at a rental house. So I can learn more of the equipment and at the same time start making conne ..read more

Save Point 7.4 pipeline update
IndieTalk

Some glimpses at the 7,4 tech of the Save Point pipeline. As it gets more complex and heavy (computationally) updates have been slower. Main takeaways here are a more solid animation format with much less "crawling lines" motion. In this version, I'm starting to split the pipeline into individual branches that handle character, prop, and background separately, and composites them. The result is a process with independent control for each character, finally allowing me to actually tell a story as opposed to simply creating compelling visuals. Obviously, this is an extremely important step ..read more
