PEARL, Miss. (MEMA) – The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency staff is validating damage numbers to determine if the state is eligible to apply for federal assistance following the April 9-10 tornadoes, severe weather, and flooding. During the validation process, the state is coordinating with non-governmental organizations and private non-profits to meet the needs of affected citizens. PEARL, Miss. (MEMA) – The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency is working with counties to assess damage from the severe weather and flooding for April 9-10. At the time of this release, two deaths have been reported (Scott and Leflore) and six injuries due to the recent storms and flooding. The National Weather Service Jackson confirmed an EF 1 tornado in Hinds County (Learned on April 9) and an EF 0 tornado in Madison County (Mannsdale on April 10). PEARL, Miss. (MEMA) – The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency is working with counties to assess damage from the severe weather beginning on April 9, 2024. There are reports of homes damaged, trees down, roads blocked, and power outages due to the storms. One death (Scott County) and one injury (Grenada County) have been reported to MEMA. Pearl, Miss- The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency and state and local partners worked together as the state experienced winter weather conditions.
