When I was playing tee ball as a youngster, I didn’t know then that I was starting to learn a game that had a rich opportunity for statistical research. Back then, I was just worried about hitting the ball past the infield. I’ve grown up since then and I’ve found that baseball is a beautiful game, but it’s also so much more. It’s a game that can be studied. It’s a game that offers singular independent events on every pitch and those events give plenty of opportunity for analysis and insight.
I then learned about fantasy baseball and found that to be a beautiful game too that benefits greatly ..read more

Your decisions on fantasy baseball draft day are only as good as the projections that you use. To paraphrase an old saying, if you use garbage data then you’ll get garbage results. So, obviously, we want to use the best projections for our drafts each year, but you may ask how to find out which are the best projections. This post will shine some light on that.
I’ll give a behind-the-scenes look at how the projection analysis is done then I’ll share the best hitter projections and best pitcher projections from last season. The hope is that this gives you better confidence in choosing a project ..read more

Welcome back to another installment of Mr. Cheatsheet. For a few short weeks every March, this site puts out content that is designed to put you in a position to win your fantasy baseball leagues by dominating your fantasy drafts and auctions. The crown jewels of that annual content are the cheatsheets that give this site its name and this is the post to introduce them.
For those not aware of what you’re stepping into, these are spreadsheets designed for Microsoft Excel on your desktops and laptops (mobile/web spreadsheet apps do not work). They are highly customizable because fantasy basebal ..read more

At some point in time after the invention of this game of fantasy baseball, some so-called experts figured it may be helpful to publish annual rankings of every single player available in the fantasy drafts. It’s a sensible idea as it’s basically a way for well-researched people to give their information and advice to less-informed people. Years have passed and the world has changed but yearly rankings still exist. There’s an endless amount of them out there. And, yes, this post represents yet another one to add to that mix.
I don’t truly believe that rankings are immensely important and help ..read more

We just need one hand to count the number of days until Opening Day and we are all scurrying to get our last fantasy baseball drafts in. Or, we’ve had our drafts and now we are just gawking at the wonderful teams that we drafted. We still have no way of knowing what will happen this upcoming season though and that mystery is part of the fun. I mean, everyone loves a good mystery but let’s try to solve the mystery a little bit and take a look at what my Special Blend projections say about the upcoming season.
For the uninitiated, baseball projections are created every year by very smart people ..read more

When I started this website, the purpose was to publish my fantasy baseball research but, more importantly, to give a home to my customizable Excel cheatsheets for fantasy drafts. In those early years, I could not get the cheatsheets to work on Excel for the Mac, but I wanted to still help those folks out too. That led to me making printable cheatsheets as a supplemental tool on my site and they became an annual thing over the years. Even after my Excel sheets started working on all computer types, there were folks who liked the printable cheatsheets and what they provided.
So, here we are ag ..read more

This post is specifically for anybody who has downloaded one of my fantasy baseball cheatsheets but found that it did not work as expected, or if the cheatsheet left you confused. I’ll walk through some solutions to the most common issues that I’ve heard about and some tips on how to best use the sheet.
There are a lot of features packed into the cheatsheets and some features go unnoticed despite them being super helpful, so I’ll make sure to highlight a few things to try out when playing around in these spreadsheets.

I didn’t expect that I’d be publishing this post this year. As I alluded to in a post a little while ago, I have been in a health and life crisis lately and I did not see a scenario in which I could publish my fantasy baseball cheatsheets for 2022. Yet, here we are.
So, what happened, you may ask?
You all happened. The emails, the tweets, the direct messages, the Reddit posts, the comments, and so many kind words happened. You took a beaten-down Mr. Cheatsheet and lifted him up with your support. While my health and life issues remain, I found a renewed spirit to power through and publish an u ..read more

As I noted previously on this site, this year is a bit weird for both me and baseball itself. I still felt it would be valuable if I could produce my Special Blend projections for another year and, thankfully, I was able to pull it off. If you’re new to this site and my projections, I’ll do some explaining in a moment about why I think they are so valuable and unique.
But, first: I have to do my little promo for a film contest that I’m in the running for. I’m a filmmaker in my day-to-day life and I pitched a film idea about my state of North Carolina. It’s being considered for the final spot i ..read more

Well well well, if it isn’t my yearly post on which starting pitchers to target and which you may want to avoid in your fantasy baseball drafts. If you’ve been following my updates on Twitter, or if you read my introductory 2022 post, then you know that things have been flipped upside down in my life. For that reason, it brings me great joy to present my sleeper pitchers to you again this season.
As I also have mentioned on Twitter, I’m a filmmaker in my daily life and I’m in a contest run by the state of North Carolina. I’m one of three people up for a final spot to get their film idea made ..read more
