My “mini-reviews” are intended to provide a quick, simple insight to a pen after a brief period of usage. They’re originally published on my Instagram feed but will be published here for archive’s sake and easy reference. I genuinely look forward to hearing your thoughts so please leave a comment at the end. I love blacked-out pens. And I love German pens. So when Montblanc announced the Ultra Black LeGrand, you could say they had my attention. Thankfully, I’ve had several opportunities to use one and here’s my assessment. The texture on the cap and barrel feel great! It looks and feels ..read more

My "mini-reviews" are intended to provide a quick, simple insight to a pen after a brief period of usage. They're originally published on my Instagram feed but will be published here for archive's sake and easy reference. I genuinely look forward to hearing your thoughts so please leave a comment at the end. When I first learned the price point for the Rouge et Noir was $650 for the black and $780 for the coral I was 100% ready to purchase one. The only thing holding me back was deciding on a color. I was actually considering buying both to make the decision easier. That’s how much I lo ..read more

Montegrappa Mule Mini Review
The Nibsmith - Nib and Pen Repair Services

× My “mini review” is intended to be a short, concise review after spending a few weeks with a pen. While not as extensive as my video reviews, it should provide you with enough information to make an informed purchasing decision. This pen was provided to me for the purpose of this review. The Mule is based on the Montegrappa Fortuna, a pen I find to be comfortable whether the cap is posted or not. The cap does post securely and thanks to the plastic inner cap and threads, it won’t scratch the barrel. The copper cap and barrel are brilliantly shiny when new and after a couple of weeks of ..read more

Chatterley Luxuries 10th Anniversary Visconti Pens

This is a very special set of Visconti pens made exclusively for Chatterley Luxuries’ 10th Anniversary. If you’re not familiar with the name, Chatterley Luxuries is a writing instruments retailer owned and operated by Bryant Greer. I did a little video feature of Bryant at the DC Pen Show a couple years ago that you can watch to find out more about Bryant and Chatterley Luxuries. I’ve been a big fan of Bryant’s for a long time because he provides excellent customer service, has amazing pens, and by far the best prices you’ll find anywhere. But above all, he’s just a great guy and if you eve ..read more

U-BOAT Classico Tungsten 50 Review

Hey everyone, today I’m going to be taking a look at this interesting piece from U-Boat, the Classico Tungsten 50. Now, I’m very new to the watch industry and, from what I’ve seen, U-Boat doesn’t seem to be like a lot of the other brands out there. They use Swiss movements and are hand assembled in Italy, a fact they’re quite proud of, but they very much have their own recognizable style; you won’t find a traditional diver or flieger style watch here. A key design element is the crown at the 9 o’clock position, combined with a large case, typically in the 45-50mm range, with bold, easy to read ..read more

Lambrou Pens to debut LB6 Virtues Pen Collection at DC Pen Show

The new LB6 Virtues Pens is a collection from Lambrou Pens (formerly Classic Pens, Inc.) that I’m really excited about! For one, I absolutely adore the Flame Red acrylic and, two, I had a bit of hand in creating the collection. While I was at the 2015 LA Pen Show I approached Andy Lambrou about creating a one-off pen based on their Mythos and made from the Flame Red acrylic. The Mythos model is their largest pen with somewhat of a square-ish design. It feels great in my hand and the oversize #8 nib looks fantastic. Andy liked the idea so much that he decided to turn the design into a series ..read more

Omas Ogiva Burkina Review

2015 marks the 90th Anniversary of Officina Meccanica Armando Simoni, or Omas, the name you’re probably more familiar with. And they’re celebrating in a big way. Earlier this year Omas released the 90th Anniversary Paragon set featuring 3 of their lovely celluloids and now they’re bringing the Ogiva to the party all dressed up in a very special suit. This is the first time the Ogiva has been offered in the Burkina celluloid and boy does it look good! Since I’ve already done full reviews of the Ogiva in its resin and celluloid forms before, this will mostly just be an overview. Previousl ..read more
