Best Mics for an Outdoor Shoot?

I'm shooting a scene in the desert. It starts outside then one of the characters move into a car, once they move into the car they don't have anymore dialogue. It's my first time spearheading everything from recruiting everyone to making sure the equipment is suitable. We have a shotgun we can use, but I have a couple people telling me that a boom is the way to go, and others saying a lav. Ideally it'd be great to have both, but we're working with a small budget. I have someone willing to boom should we use it, but just wondering what's the best mic to use for this specific shoot. Thank you ..read more

Hi all - Curious what you think are the best AI/LLM tools currently available to save time/money/personnel on a film, during all phases. No image generation stuff, just the organization, planning, etc., like a virtual 2nd AD which can create call sheets, DIT logging, help in the edit. Anything that saves time/money/personnel? submitted by /u/Shallot_True [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Hey filmmakers -- I'm here to share about Crewvie.com -- It's essentially LinkedIn but for Film & TV Professionals, and is a completely free way to market yourself to the entertainment industry. Doesn't matter how much experience you have. You could even still be in film school. You create a profile, build it out, list your resume, add photos, your reel, list your equipment for rent, special skills you have, and voila, you will be made public to a huge network of Film/TV people -- Producers/Production Offices use Crewvie when filming and search the database for crew members to hire. Hey everyone, I have a shoot coming up where I need to wallpaper 13 flats. Last time we shot on this soundstage it took our crew 2 hours to wallpaper 5 flats because of the poor quality of the paper, does anyone have any recommendations as to reliable wallpaper that’s easy to put up? submitted by /u/adamiscool2849966 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Likelihood of getting consistent-ish PA work in LA with new connections in the current slump?

I worked on a major sporting event in the midwest as a PA, and got to talking with a camera op that worked in the industry. Without my asking, she then generously gave me 5 contacts in the industry that hire PAs (key PAs or ADs). I know I can't predict the future, but I've been seeing all the posts about how slow everything is right now, and I just wanted to ask how likely is it that I could get at least a couple gigs a month from moving there with these contacts? I just want to be realistic and rational before making any big decisions. Please refrain from snark or rudeness, I am trying to fi ..read more

Movies for Filmmakers

Im an independent filmmaker in TX. I’ve been making movies for about 6 years. My director/writer has a very specific taste for older cinema and my p. sound mixer is able to share in their movie knowledge but does have a different taste in films himself. I on the other hand have a pretty basic knowledge of films and growing up i really just watched what was available to me. I never went out of my way to pick and watch on my own dvds and I really liked films for the fact that they brought my family together. Here’s a hand full of movies I like, so you can get a grip of my taste. La Haine, Good ..read more
