I apologize if this is the first you’re hearing of this. JOhn Rokos reached out to let me know about the passing of Ben Kihnel, who was the first person hired — and the second hire overall — when CD Baby relocated to Portland back in the day. He also spent time at local music startup Rumblefish. He was 48. Derek Sivers, the founder of CD Baby, shared the following in a post: Ben was employee #2 of CD Baby. (#1 was the great John Steup.) John hired Ben the day we moved the company to Portland, Oregon. I don’t even know how we met Ben. Then all of the early employees at CD Baby were Ben’s ..read more

Silicon Florist
by Rick Turoczy
14h ago
Even though it was a short session, this time around, Oregon still got some stuff done. Like passing and signing into law the strongest “right to repair” bill in the United States, Oregon Senate Bill 1596 — dubbed the “Right to Repair Act.” The law takes effect next year. Thank you Gov. @TinaKotek for signing #RightToRepair into law! With Right to Repair becoming law, Oregon continues to boldly rethink our throwaway, disposable approach to consumption and disposal of electronics and appliances. @SollmanJaneen @RepNeronHD26 — OSPIRG (@OSPIRG) March 27, 2024 “As a tech industry leader, Oregon ..read more

As you’re working your way through that first cup — or first pot — of coffee… now seemed as good of a time as any to remind you that you have the opportunity to have a cup of coffee with a bunch of other founders tomorrow, Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at Crema Coffee in Taborspace. This month we are back at Taborspace. It’s been nearly 5 years since we held a meetup in this space so we decided to come back. We will do our best to provide some signage so people can identify the group more easily.
