I was very excited to be invited to be a guest designer for the Not 2 Shabby shop for February! Jamie sent me the stamp and die for the month of February called Spread Your Wings and I was very excited to play with it today.   I created 5 cards in total using this set with 2 techniques. The first set of 3 use the heat embossing technique with white embossing powder on dark colors of cardstock.  I chose black, bright pink, and navy blue. I love the way these came out.  This is a perfect stamp for this technique.  I also find this to be a quick and easy technique to use.&nb ..read more

5 Key Elements of a Scrapbook Layout
Stamping Imperfection

I’ve been doing a lot of research and I’ve taken several classes on scrapbook layout design.  I’ve come up with 5 key elements that I like to include on all of my layouts or in each double page layout.   These 5 items include: Photos Canvas (layout background) Ephemera (the “jewelry”) Title Journaling I scrapbook to tell my story and my family’s story.  I want my layout to convey an event or a moment in time that I want us to remember. I always try to start with the photos or the potential photos a soon-to-be event will create.  If I’m making my layout for a future event ..read more

I have really been enjoying the scrapbook workshop kits that I have purchased from Close To My Heart.  I have been playing with the Now & Forever Scrapbook Workshop Kit.  I got the kit with the stamp and thin cuts set included and I’m so happy that I did that! I’ve made a ton of my own ephemera and I’m loving the way all my pages turned out! I’m sharing 3 pages with you today and I have a video for the double page layout, along with sketches that you can print below!     I almost never feel like I have enough ephemera in any kit that I use! Happily, there is a stamp an ..read more

Card Making Techniques: Creating a Background with Word or Alpha Dies
Stamping Imperfection

Today, I was playing with a small set of word dies that I purchased from Close To My Heart last month.  It actually has 4 words that can be used in a variety of combinations to make card sentiments or titles for scrapbook layouts. I decided to use it to create an elegant background on a couple of cards that I wanted to make.   I die cut the word love in white cardstock about 17 times and glued it in rows on a piece of white cardstock cut at 4 x 5-1/4″.  This became my card background.  I took two of the love die cuts and glued them together.  I also added some Scarlet ..read more

Star Stampz January Challenge: Animals

This month’s Star Stampz challenge is all about animals!   I selected this adorable dragon from the Dragon and Knight digital stamp that I have in my stash.  I created a card for my son last year with this digi and decided to use it again.  This time, I modified the digi by eliminating the knight and just using the dragon to make a tag or bookmark. I colored him in with my Copics in yellow and yellow-greens.  I did a little ink blending with the Gathered Twigs distress oxide ink.  The sentiment is from an old Visible Image stamp that I have had in my stash for years ..read more

Happy 2023! It’s time for a Challenge YOUrself Scrapbook Challenge.  The first challenge of the year is to create a 2022 Year in Review layout.   I had a lot of fun with this challenge! I don’t think I’ve ever done a year in review layout before and it was eye opening to really see highlights of the year. I didn’t even get all the things in this layout!!   I used some Hip Kit Club papers that I had left over along with some arrows and alphabet letters from my stash.  It was a lot of fun to revisit some of the highlights from the year and sort of summarize them in one plac ..read more

I hope your holiday season has been, and continues to be, joyful! It’s the start of a new Challenge YOUrself scrapbook challenge!  This month’s theme is black and white photos.       I used the October Hip Kit Club kit to create my layout.  I absolutely loved the color scheme of this kit!  It was less pastel than usual and had richer, deeper colors. I’m definitely an autumn when it comes to selecting colors I love.   This is not the first time that I’ve used this photo on a layout.  I just love this photo.  My husband and I take a 30-45 minute wal ..read more

Star Stampz November Challenge Reminder!

I am posting a reminder that the Star Stampz Challenge ends on December 8 for this month! This month’s challenge is an anything goes with a focus on nature. This month, I used the Autumn Gift digi from the Star Stampz Shop on Etsy. I love this sweet image.  When I first started coloring the digi images from Star Stampz, I was a little afraid that I wouldn’t be able to color them in as well as everyone else.  I just tackled one part of each image at a time until the entire thing was colored in. You don’t have to be a coloring expert to join in the challenges.  Just take one par ..read more
