I’m Kara. I love to sew and refashion as my creative outlet. I originally started this blog as a way to share the projects I worked on while my first son, Camden, slept. Hence the name. He's now 4 years old and has a little brother, but I still manage to find a little crafting time every now and again.

I’m super excited about the possibilities that bleach tie-dyeing presents. It’s a great way to update old items and it’s quite easy to do. For today’s reverse tie-dye tutorial, I’m using the sweater I made in my DIY Sweater Tutorial.
What is reverse tie-dyeing?
Reverse tie-dyeing, or bleach tie-dye, is creating the tie-dye look by removing color pigments with bleach. Traditional tie-dye involves color to being added to a canvas, instead of removed. Both methods produce the unique, cloudy pattern tie-dye is known for.
Sometimes people take reverse tie-dyeing to the next level by starting ..read more

Today I get to share my makes from the Raspberry Creek Fabrics’ Suit up for Summer blog tour! If you love swimsuits and sewing, you are going to love this tour! There’s links to tons of different blogs at the bottom of this post that will take you to different handmade swimsuit posts.
I had so much fun sewing these swimsuits! I used Made for Mermaids patterns for both suits. The tie-dye suit is made with the Alexandria Swimsuit Pattern, and the two piece is a hack using the Mama Camila Pattern.

Sew a Sweater without a Commerical Pattern
The beauty of being able to sew is that you can make just about anything you set your heart to once you have the fundamentals down. For me, that often means copying something I already love. In today’s tutorial, I’ll show you how to make a diy sweater. No need to go out and buy a pattern, just make your own quick version using a sweater you already have and love.
The fabric I’m using in this DIY Sweater Tutorial is Hacci from Raspberry Creek Fabrics. They are local to Utah and constantly come out with new gorgeous prints.

Why you should make a crib sheet:
I have 4 boys. They are incredibly good at breaking things. Sometimes that can be really depressing, but one thing they can’t break is bedding–which is why it’s always one area I love to invest in when it comes to decorating. Since having baby number 4, I’ve had the chance to make a crib sheet multiple times. I love how they instantly change the entire room. Plus, they are also pretty simple to sew.
For my crib sheet tutorial, I’ll be using Double Brushed Poly Knits from Raspberry Creek Fabrics. Their entire sele ..read more

This diy formal dress is easy–no buttons, zippers, pleats, or darts. Thanks to the stretch-factor of this beautiful stretch velvet with sequins from JOANN, this dress turns out looking really fancy, without actually being hard to sew. I have made it several times, including for maternity photos and this red carpet party. Each time I’ve made it, I’ve done it a little bit differently. For today’s formal dress tutorial, I made it with a slit and a curved hem. Let’s get started!

I love the look of a crisp, clean tablecloth. I also love my children. For years, it seemed, I couldn’t have both around at the same time. And while I did briefly consider having the kids eat every meal outside; I knew that that probably wouldn’t seem too cool and my neighbors would deem me the “bad mom.” No one wants to be the “bad mom.” NO ONE.
My first effort was to Scotchguard it. I layered that stuff on like butter to toast. It didn’t really seem to make a difference, and failed me when paired against tomato sauce for the first time.
So I moved on. I tried out the cheap vinyl cloths ..read more
