Low Sugar Cherry Jam Ever since returning from our month long honeymoon around Europe (oh, did I mention I got married?!), we have been baking homemade bread. As most people know the artisan bread in Europe is phenomenal and a staple of any budget friendly lunch picnic. I’ve always wanted to try bread baking, but like canning for many, the thought of baking eluded me and I figured it was too complicated for me. Enter Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day. Mind blown, so easy, my new found glory! So as many of you may have noticed on my instagram account, I’ve been a bread baking fiend for ..read more

Cherry Ginger Shrub CherryPalooza 2019 i.e #canbassador time of year! This marks my 5th year of being selected as a Canbassador for the folks over at North West Cherry Growers. Last Friday I came home to 22lbs of fresh, juicy, Bing cherries! Seemingly every year my shipment arrives the day before I head out of town or the day before company arrives. This means I have a very limited amount of time to figure out how to store 22lbs of cherries in my already overcrowded (with Ball jars) fridge. Wow! Anywho, this year I present a very simple, but very solid Cherry Ginger Shrub.  A ..read more

Peach & Cayenne Jam Happy peach season ya’ll. Don’t mind me as I stuff my face with leftover peaches from my 2018 Washington State Fruit Commission Canbassador bounty. Per tradition AND to prepare for last month’s Bull City Food Swap, I decided to go crazy and put up 18 half pints of peach jam. It was a lot! Also, I used Pomona Pectin FOR THE FIRST TIME. Like many things in my life (cue bad life choices…), trying Pomona pectin was something I needed to come to on my own. For many years people have been asking me why I don’t use it, my simple answer was because it was expensive. Hund ..read more

The Cherry Bounce Before I get too excited about blogging for the first time in 10 months… In order to have this heavenly booze filled recipe done in-time for Christmas, YOU HAVE TO MAKE THIS CHERRY BOUNCE NOW. The longer cherry bounce “brews”, the better it will taste, most recommend giving it atleast 6mos before drinking. So get your holiday drank making on… We will cheers at Christmas, OK? Oh hey! Fancy seeing you here. Last September I decided to make myself take a 6 month blogging break. I figured with winter coming, it was time to eat my bounty of canned goods rather than add to it. Pepper Relish

Pepper Relish For the past 2 years I’ve found myself partially admiring and partially envying the canned goodies at the Bonlee Grown Farm stand at the Durham Farmers’ Market. Every Saturday, I swing by for a taste of their latest flavor, but secretly I’m looking for inspiration… Their set-up is always super inviting with their grandmother’esque tablecloths and smiling staff. This past Saturday, pepper relish on my mind, I couldn’t pass up a conversation with the farmers’ daughter Ramy, and grabbed some of these beautiful yellow and orange bell peppers. While I was at it, I picked up a couple d ..read more

Cookbook Feature: Savory Sweet When I first received my copy of Savory Sweet: Simple Preserves from a Northern Kitchen I was up to my ankles in fresh peaches and looking for some simple stone fruit recipe inspiration. As I scanned the index I was surprised (though later, VERY much appreciated) by its lack of peach recipes. As I dug further I corrected myself and realized, “duh Erin, why would a cookbook with the word “Northern” in its title feature recipes of non-local fruits!?” Published earlier this year, Savory Sweet written by Minnesota based Beth Dooley and Denmark born Mette Nielsen, is ..read more
