Price Controls: The Walking Dead of Public Policy

In 2024, the question of Intellectual Property rages on. That is because many Americans view physical property—like a home, car, or an antique—as something to be treasured, while Intellectual Property is frequently seen as an impediment to personal freedom. But Intellectual Property is the very embodiment of personal freedom. After all, what is more personal than the creations of our mind? And what better represents freedom than the ability to profit—yes, profit—from our creations? Those profits often enable us to improve our lives, as well as both directly and indirectly improve the lives of ..read more

Key Vote NO on Arizona HB 2446

On behalf of our activist community, I urge you to contact your representative and ask him or her to vote NO on HB 2446. We oppose HB 2446 because it limits the scope of practice for multiple health providers and will unnecessarily keep them from practicing at the top of their license and training. As we have learned in the years since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, our healthcare sector is already stretched thin. HB 2446 would only further limit practitioners’ abilities to treat and care for patients. Access to good nutrition while in a care setting is imperative to a patient’s ability t ..read more

Tax Bill “Rocket Fuel” for American Economy
FreedomWorks

It’s no secret most ordinary people in America feel like they’re being squeezed by higher prices at almost every turn. Rents, groceries, utilities, household goods – normal, everyday expenses we simply cannot live without – are eating more of our paycheck than maybe ever before. As much as that may sound like hyperbole, it’s not for Americans supporting families. Most of us in that age range cannot remember paying this much for food. Indeed, more than drugs, violence, climate change, or education, inflation ranks at the very top of problems the public says it is facing according to Pew. Given ..read more

The Administration’s Plan to Slash Medicare Advantage Is a Bad Idea
FreedomWorks

Traditional Medicare and Medicare Advantage (also known as Medicare Part C) differ in a few important ways, but both could learn a thing or two from the lowly Cavendish banana and its cousin the Gros “Big Mike” Michel banana. Created as part of the Medicare Modernization and Prescription Drug Act of 2002, Medicare Advantage was a way to inject choice through private market forces into Medicare, which, to that point, had operated as an outright government-run, single-payer program. Indeed, Medicare Advantage and health savings accounts were the only good things to come from the Medicare Moderni ..read more

Railroads were America’s first large-scale heavy industry. As happened with most industries, the government started by being helpful in the formation of railroads before quickly becoming antagonistic, and finally settling into a routine of intrusive regulations, occasional subsidies, and periodic political grandstanding. Marc Scribner of Reason described the latter when he said of the Railway Safety Act of 2023 (S. 576): “Unfortunately, the Senate’s bill is nothing more than a hastily assembled package of irrelevant policy proposals that will do little to advance safety, let alone effectively ..read more

The Criticism of the Fiscal Commission Act Ignores America’s Perilous Fiscal Future
FreedomWorks

Recently, the House Budget Committee marked up the Fiscal Commission Act, H.R. 5779, on a bipartisan basis. The Fiscal Commission Act would create a commission, comprised mostly of Members of Congress and outside experts appointed by congressional leadership, to make recommendations to address the structural budget deficits and rapidly growing share of the federal debt held by the public. The goal of the commission would be “to improve the fiscal situation in the medium term and to achieve a sustainable debt-to-GDP ratio of the long term, and for any recommendations related to Federal programs ..read more

On behalf of our activist community, I urge you to contact your representative and ask him or her to vote NO on the SALT Marriage Penalty Elimination Act, H.R. 7160. The SALT Marriage Penalty Elimination Act would increase the cap for the salt and local tax (SALT) deduction for joint filers from $10,000 to $20,000 for tax year 2023.  As we communicated to the House Ways and Means Committee in 2017 during the consideration of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, FreedomWorks has a preference for eliminating the SALT deduction, as well as most other deductions, for which additional revenue could’ve b ..read more

Legislate Responsibly

America was built on a foundation of heavy industry. Whether it is the blast furnaces where steel was made to give life to skyscrapers or the railroads which move the goods in our refrigerators, living rooms, and garages, these industries must be able to conduct their operations without the specter of arbitrary regulation. An example of arbitrary legislation comes in the form of S. 576, the Railway Safety Act of 2023, which was introduced by Ohio Sen. JD Vance in the wake of the February, 2023 accident in East Palestine, OH. While it is certainly reasonable for an elected official to be angry ..read more
