Hey guys! Just wanted to pop in quickly this morning. We’ve just gotten back from another quick cottage getaway, where we spent SO much time in the water, which I feel is totally appropriate as we’re wrapping up our swimsuit weeks. I still actually need to share the swimsuits I’ve made with you guys, but I didn’t want to keep those of you that entered in our awesome giveaway waiting! The prizes were in no particular order, so let’s recap and see who won each one! First prize was a 30$ gift card for The Fabric Fairy and 1 swimsuit pattern from Simple Life Company. Hi, it’s Tami here from SewSophieLynn and I have a confession. I am addicted to sewing swimsuits! It seems like the options for girls swimwear patterns has exploded in the last few years. When I first started sewing swimsuits for my girls, the Cosi Swimsuit from SewPony was THE swimsuit pattern. It’s loaded with options and is a great place to start. Peek-a-boo Pattern shop has also been around forever and is constantly adding more swimsuits to their pattern collection. This Marilyn Vintage suit is a unique style with boy short legs and a cute halter neckline. They also have ..read more

Hey! I’m Karly and today I’m here to talk about girls swimsuit trends! Girls really have so many fun options, only your imagination is the limit! Now that I live in the desert and it’s quite a bit hotter than where we were before, my girls have been pretty much living in their swimsuits, so I’ve made quite a few more this year than I ever have. 1/2/3/4/5/6/7/8 There are so many fun options to choose from when making a girls swimsuit. Keyholes, flounces, colorblocking, ruffles, cutouts, etc. One trend I’ve seen growing in popularity is multiple back straps and it gives swimsuits a r ..read more

Hey guys! As part of the next two swimsuit weeks, we’re dedicating this week to boys, and today, we’re discussing trends! It’s hard to trend boy’s swimsuits. Styles seem to stay pretty consistent throughout several years for boys. Which is nice, since if you’re one of those that sew so that things last more then just one summer, that means that your makes will last a long time and still in style! 1 / 2 / 3 Even with boys, there’s quite a few different styles you can opt to go with, be it shorter board shorts, a knee length short, a tighter brief or speedo look or even a one piece. I’m not sure about where you guys are at, but the nice weather has finally decided to stay around here north of the border, which means that we’re also starting to enjoy more and more in the water! Every year, I have the same issue, I need to make more swimsuits. I used to think sewing swimwear was for those expert seamstresses that seemed to know everything about sewing. But after sewing my first swimsuit a few years ago, I quickly learned that sewing swimsuits is just as easy as sewing with any other knit fabric. It’s a skill that, at times may seem tricky or finicky, but once you spend ..read more

The Mini Ogden Cami is one of the cute mini versions of grownup patterns by True Bias. It’s a perfect pattern for kicking off the Summer season with some quick and satisfyingly pretty sewing. The pattern is available in sizes 2-10 as a PDF We headed to our local fabric shop to choose some beautiful rayons for their tops. If you’ve seen Portlandia, you’ll understand me when I say that the dream of the 90’s is alive…. Between the sudden heatwave here, camera problems, and my younger daughter’s crucially chapped lips, I didn’t end up with a plethora of photos. But you get the idea ..read more

I recently found a new fabric pre-order group on facebook about a month ago. And I’ve fallen in love with the designs she’s been coming up with! I love a good quirky print just as much as I love a fun more traditional print that I can pair with anything, and Mimi’s Custom Fabrics includes both. Which works brilliantly for me!! I sewed up her bity floral‘s print (this one is in a bamboo blend, but it’s being offered on cotton/lycra) this past week and couldn’t be happier with the print quality! It pairs well with a multitude of colours, including this eggplant double gauze that I used as ..read more
