The Case for Clarifying Zero Emissions and Decarbonisation
Shareswatch Australia | ASX Charts & Analysis

During the course of the last decade or so, the shipping sector has been subjected to increased scrutiny & regulation related to its impact on the environment, with harmful airborne emissions being of particular concern. Since the Paris Agreement though, the focus has moved to some extent onto two long term objectives: zero emission ships and decarbonisation. These are noble ambitions, but is there a common understanding of what both terms mean and are we all moving towards the same objectives? The Australian stock market, Covid-19 and dealing with uncertainty

Back in March as the world markets were in the midst of the Covid-19 triggered sell-off I suggested that investors remain calm. I also suggested in my article at that time that the S&P/ASX 200 Index would not fall much below 5,000 and would probably recover back up towards the long term trend. As I write today both of those guesses have proven to be correct, but that's more a case of good luck rather than any ability to predict the future. ASX Market Correction, Panic Selling and the Coronavirus

the current ASX market correction has been savage but on the other hand, the S&P/ASX 200 (XJO) has over the last year had a very good run upwards as we can see from the chart below. Certainly the recent sell-off has pushed the ASX 200 back to where it was at the start of 2018, but that's what happens when a correction hits - I.e. the market goes backwards. The ASX 200 – a long term view

I have written on many occasions how the ASX 200 has basically been moving sideways for years. Along the way of course the usual crowd excitedly cheer when the market rallies and then almost in an instant, reverse course when the markets fall and start talking gloomily about another financial crisis that might hit the markets soon. ASX 200 Index – Below 6,000 Again

During the last few months I have not written anything about the Australian stock market since there didn't really seem to be much to write about. As I mentioned at the start of the year, I was not optimistic about the outlook for the S&P/ASX 200 (XJO) range of stocks and I haven't even bothered to make a prediction where the ASX 200 Index might finish in 2018. Oil, Telstra, Macquarie & the ASX 200

Earlier this year there was quite a bit of excitement amongst many market watchers as the S&P/ASX 200 had settled above 6000 after a rallying from just over 5,500 in October 2017. The mainstream news & finance media were as usual generating click-bait content that conveyed the impression that the market was in the midst of an almost unstoppable rally. These past 30 trading days have been really tough to trade because the market is chopping around with huge one day moves back to back. Sometimes, its best to sit, watch and wait for some dust to settle before getting overly involved with new trades which is what we have done. Will the Australian Stock Market Rally Continue?

Late in 2017 I was prepared for a significant market correction and not only did this not happen but instead the market finished the year strongly. Rather than the S&P/ASX 200 Index falling back towards 5500 it actually pushed and held above 6000 for reasons I'm not sure are based on market fundamentals. So what happens from here?
