Five Things

Ok, so, in my defense, I've had multiple kids home sick for over a week and I thought today was Friday. Oops! Here's my Friday Five Things post… 1 day late! Last week I told you that we were working on a special preorder featuring colours picked from our 2024 Advent (only 6 left!) and I said that I hoped to knit some swatches… well, this project has officially taken on a life of it's own and I couldn't be happier with it! I've crocheted swatches, I've knit swatches and I am on my 4th sample - each featuring a different colour combo and an original pattern building off the a simple cable theme ..read more

I’m still trying to figure out what is the best way for me to communicate with you and deep down in my heart I want it to be the blog. I’m considering all sorts of options. Our newsletter will always be active, but what about Patreon? Substack? Youtube? Instagram feels like it’s on the brink of collapse… for now I’ve decided to post yesterday’s newsletter as a permanent blog post in case you want to reference any of the pattern suggestions or browse the links. Not that you can’t already do that from the newsletter in your email but… like I said, still trying to figure out what makes the most s ..read more

Five Random Things on a Friday is BACK! Let’s kick it off with a bang shall we? I made a truly perfect batch of homemade granola. It was my first time making it with candied ginger and I love it so much. My trick for good clumps is to gently pat your granola down on your baking sheet in a thin layer and do not stir! Many recipes will tell you to stir midway, I rotate the pan midway and then let it cool completely before breaking it into clumps when I put it in my container (it breaks when I lift it off the tray and poor it in anyway). Works every time. I also added my candied ginger and raisi ..read more

Guys! I’ve published my first pattern of the year! This is City Limits Light, the fingering weight version of my classic Worsted Weight City Limits sweater pattern. I knit my sample last year and then finished my daughter’s over the summer. I don’t know why it has taken me so long to get ‘er done but I am thrilled to have it out in the world! I have linked the pattern above, there are loads of additional photos and details on the Ravelry pattern page and in the listing on my website, so I’m not going to go into much more detail here. One of the things that I struggled with around the time tha ..read more

2023 Year In Review

Wow. Here I am. I’m doing it. I haven’t blogged since Feb. 2022 and even then I was seriously fizzling. Here’s the thing, I don’t have the time or the energy to go into all the reasons why I fell off of blogging. The short version is that I totally blame social media - specifically Instagram - for the demise of the blog. But things are shifting. As they always are. Ever since short form content took over from longer form I’ve felt a pang. Actually, maybe a pang isn’t quite right, it’s less acute, more of a general malaise. A longing? A lacking? A sense of drifting? I think that for me, writing ..read more

How I Wash My Hand Knits
Tanis Fiber Arts

I originally published this blog post in March of 2019. 3 years later and I think it’s time for a repost! All of this info still holds true for me, I haven’t changed my methods. Be sure to read the comments for a few more helpful suggestions such as using your top-load washer to soak and spin your sweaters without running a wash cycle and how I launder my knit socks (it’s very casual). This is a long awaited post about how exactly I go about washing all my hand knits. There are a few disclaimers I have to put out there before I get into it: 1) No matter what kind of yarn you’re knitting with ..read more

A typical view of my corner of the sofa. I’m working on a sock set of patterns that will be ready next month! My new favourite photo of me and my big guy. Colouring gauge rulers this week. Time consuming but delightful! Another new pattern! I’m really smitten with this one. I just started reading this book and am looking forward to getting into the meat of it. Wishing you all a restful and warm weekend! I can’t get over the cold spell we’ve been having here ..read more

So, there are actually way more than 2 sweaters that I will be wearing all fall. The above photo is of me finishing up the most glorious fall/winter cushy cozy piece of knitting ever! It’s a September Sweater by Petite Knit knit in the loveliest shade of pinky red. I’m into it. Expect to see an FO post for this beauty soon. I’ve also got a new magical striped pullover that I’ll be sporting weekly for the rest of my life, more on that soon. But, 2 new sweater patterns have made my heart skip a beat and I’m very excited to knit them this fall. First, a little backstory: I have had this fringe ..read more

Back To Work!

Top to bottom: Sand, Tartan, Brick, Caramel, Gold, Chartreuse, Mint, Mallard. Earlier this morning I quietly restocked all of our Core Collection colourways and bases on our website. Head over to the Shop Yarn tab to see what we’ve got in stock. We’re slowly but surely getting back to work after having taken the summer off and it’s a transition that will take a bit of time. We don’t have kits of mini skeins of any kind available yet, but it’s all coming! Our summer break was an incredible change of pace that we desperately needed. I always say that we work extra hard 10 months of the year in ..read more
