All things considered, the NBA’s decision to issue a lifetime ban to Toronto Raptors forward Jontay Porter for gambling on the league qualifies as a massive story. After all, it’s not every day that the NBA — or any major league, for that matter — bans a player for life as the result of allegations that include betting against his own team.
So it was surprising that it took ESPN more than an hour to acknowledge the news, which was first broken by the network’s own Adrian Wojnarowski. Despite Wojnarowki first reporting the lifetime ban on X (formerly Twitter) at 12:16 p.m. ET on Wednesday, ESP ..read more

After Kendrick Perkins this week accused Inside the NBA personalities Charles Barkley and Shaquille O’Neal of not watching basketball enough to cover the league properly, the two responded on Tuesday night’s broadcast of the NBA Play-In Tournament.
Heading into commercial, TNT flashed a video from X of Blake Griffin dunking on Perkins to commemorate Griffin’s retirement with one of his signature highlight plays. Only rather than leave it at Griffin, the Inside hosts used the opportunity to dig at present-day Perkins as well.

Dan Patrick is a legend of sports media, with multiple Sports Emmys to his name.
But the host of The Dan Patrick Show wants to win one more before he retires in 2027. Patrick expressed his belief on Tuesday’s edition of his long-running radio show that he and the “Dannettes” crew deserve an Emmy before the show ends in a few years, and his hope that the voting body will come through.
The nominees for the 45th Sports Emmys were released last week and the “Outstanding Studio Show – Daily” category included MLB Tonight and Pardon the Interruption but not The DP Show — or a si ..read more

Nearly one month after teasing a “big” guest for his annual Draft Spectacular simulcast, McAfee officially unveiled that said guest will, in fact, be the former New England Patriots head coach. Having helped lead the Golden State Warriors to four NBA titles, it’s hard to find an NBA head coach with a more impressive resume than Steve Kerr’s.
But as Bill Belichick recently learned the hard way, the shine of championship rings only lasts for so long.
So after the Warriors’ 2023-24 season came to its disappointing end with a loss to the Sacramento Kings in the NBA Play-In Tournament on Tuesday, it was hardly a surprise to see several Golden State fans directing their ire toward Kerr. But as one notorious Kerr skeptic took part in a postgame X/Twitter Spaces session, he soon found himse ..read more

After Mike Greenberg erroneously argued on ESPN’s platforms that the Los Angeles Lakers should want to lose their Play-In game against the New Orleans Pelicans, the conversation made its way back to Darvin Harm. Following the Lakers’ 110-106 win over New Orleans on Tuesday night, a reporter asked the Lakers’ head coach if he heard the chatter that his team would be better off losing the game to avoid Denver.
Ham questioned if people — like Greeny — who thought his team should lose to the Pelicans to avoid the Nuggets just got out of the insane asylum.
“That’s exactly what he should say,” the ..read more

The Golden State Warriors’ season-ending loss to the Sacramento Kings in the NBA SoFi Play-In Tournament on Tuesday night potentially marked the end of an era with Klay Thompson set to hit free agency in the offseason ahead.
According to Charles Barkley, even if the Warriors re-sign their longtime cornerstone, he won’t be returning to his All-Star form, nor will he be making the type of salary he’s become accustomed to at this point in his Hall of Fame career.
“They’re gonna have to make a hard decision on Klay,” Barkley said on Inside the NBA following the Warriors’ 118-94 loss to the Kings ..read more

From 1991-97 NBC viewers welcomed Bryant Gumbel and Katie Couric into their homes every morning on The Today Show.
The talented duo had a mix of personality and journalistic skills that kept things humming along perfectly in their time at the helm.
However, a new interview with Couric has shined some light on the duo, and it seems as though the longtime host of Real Sports took issue with Couric going on maternity leave after having her first child in 1991.
Appearing on Bill Maher’s podcast Club Random, Couric explained that Gumbel had what she felt was a “sexist attitude.”
