In this video by homesteadonomics, we see the construction of a home made rain roof – designed to harvest rainwater in a high desert location. First, treated and painted 4×4 posts are dropped into the ground. It doesn’t look like concrete footings were used but it’s hard to tell. Next, a slanted span is added, using regular 2x4s, with 45º corner braces put in for stability.
