The Olympics Opening Ceremony went down in Paris today. IDGAF but my job as Stereogum team captain requires me to tell you that Gojira rocked out with Marie Antoinette and Céline Dion returned to the stage, but didn’t duet with Harley Quinn. Snoop Dogg, Pharrell Williams, and BTS’ Jin were among those carrying the torch earlier in the day. Birthday boy Mick Jagger was spotted cheering on Team GB. And Ariana Grande was there too, doing some Wicked promo. Somewhere Snoop is practicing his 200m while Flavor Flav is practicing his t-shot. Soon: breakdancing! Good luck, America ..read more

Although competition began a few days ago, today marks the official beginning of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. It’s been a rocky kickoff, with questions about all the fecal bacteria in the Seine River (where some of the swimming events will take place) and coordinated arson attacks on the city’s high-speed rail system today. Nonetheless, the show must go on, so the Opening Ceremony is underway ..read more

The French band Rixe started up more than a decade ago, and their haunted, synth-streaked take on oi has been hugely influential on an underground level, especially in their homeland. In recent years, Rixe have been playing occasional shows, but they haven’t released any music since their three-song 2018 EP Act IV. This fall, Rixe are coming back to tour North America, and they’re also releasing a stark new EP called Tir Group ..read more

Earlier this month, New York cult-punk weirdos Show Me The Body announced a big fall tour with opening acts like High Vis, Special Interest, Bib, and ZelooperZ. It looks fucking awesome. They also release the hard, squirmy single “It Burns,” and that turned out to be the opening song for a guest-heavy new EP that comes out today ..read more

The veteran California rap producer Mustard helped define the sound of early-’10s West Coast rap, but he might be having his biggest moment right now. Mustard produced Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us,” one of this year’s defining tracks and the biggest Mustard-produced single of all time. Mustard also opened Kendrick’s Pop Out concert with a set full of all-star guests, and he danced with Kendrick in the great “Not Like Us” video. Today, Mustard releases his new album Faith In A Mustard Seed ..read more
