Melissa Tamez-USA TODAY Sports The bats have cooled off. Salvador Perez’s game-winning home run was a bright spot in a tough week for the offense: Just three days after suffering a mild left groin strain Sunday against the Mets, Perez silenced any injury doubts by catching Game 1 and ending up the offensive hero Wednesday afternoon with his fifth homer of the season. “Big-time player doing big-time things,” said Game 1 starter Brady Singer, who allowed two runs in five innings. “It’s incredible to watch him. I’ve been fortunate enough to play with him for a couple of years, just watching him ..read more

Melissa Tamez-USA TODAY Sports A doubleheader split but a series win. The Royals and White Sox split a couple of low-scoring games in today’s doubleheader, with Kansas City winning 4-2 in the first game before losing 2-1 in the second. The first inning was quiet for each team as batters tried to find their footing. Leading off the second, Jonathon Cannon finished a seven-pitch battle with Salvador Perez with a strikeout for the first of his big league career. He would soon follow with his first hits and run allowed. With two outs, Nelson Velázquez roped a double into the right-center gap. Adam ..read more

Jamie Sabau-USA TODAY Sports Let’s play two! The Royals of Kansas City will play two games this afternoon against the Pale Hose of Southside Chicago. Yesterday’s game was rained out, so it will be made up as part of a straight doubleheader, with the second game slated to begin shortly after the conclusion of the first. Brady Singer will start the first game for Kansas City. He has been outstanding in his three starts this year, posting a microscopic 0.98 ERA. On one hand, his .182 BABIP against and 100% strand rate are entirely unsustainable. On the other, his peripherals are roughly in line w ..read more

Another Wednesday! The Royals announced a series of events and giveaways to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the 2014 playoff run. Cole Ragans answered questions for Dan Connolly of sportskeeda, including reflecting on his journey through two Tommy Johns after he was awarded this year’s Opening Day start: It’s hard not to reflect. My wife the other day told me that Opening Day was six years to the day I had my first [Tommy John surgery]. I had no idea, but my wife came across a video and it had the date on it. So, that was pretty cool. You always look back, but at the same time, I look f ..read more

Former Royals manager Whitey Herzog dies at age 92
Royals Review

With his aggressive baserunning strategies, Whitey led the Royals to their first three playoff appearances. Hall of Fame manager Whitey Herzog, who managed the Royals from 1975 to 1979, has died at the age of 92. Dorrel Norman Elvert Herzog grew up just east of St. Louis in Illinois, excelling at baseball enough to be signed by the Yankees as a teenager. After a stint in the Army and a trade to the Washington Senators, he made his MLB debut as an outfielder in 1956. He played for the Kansas City Athletics from 1958 to 1960, and had short stints with the Orioles and Tigers before his career en ..read more

Photo by Stephen Dunn/Getty Images Headin’ to the Oasis Have you ever started reading about something and it led you into a rabbit hole of information? This happened to me recently and I dropped into a hole much deeper than I imagined possible. My daughter and I were at a hockey game a week ago, watching our local juniors team, the Waterloo Blackhawks. Baseball has always been my first sports love, though track and field and more recently, hockey, have pulled up a chair at that table. For a small organization with a limited budget, the Blackhawks do a lot of things right, from community engage ..read more

Photo by Jay Biggerstaff/Getty Images Salvy is A-OK! Salvy will avoid the Injured List, writes Anne Rogers. Indeed, Perez’s MRI scan taken Monday in Chicago “was the best result we could have hoped for,” Quatraro said. Imaging showed a mild left groin strain that is not expected to require an injured list stint. Catcher Logan Porter traveled to Chicago on Monday to be a one-man taxi squad — meaning he’s not on the active roster — in case the Royals quickly needed a backup. But all signs point to Perez needing one or a few days off to recover and get treatment. It wouldn’t be surprising to see ..read more

Vinnie Pasquantino #9 of the Kansas City Royals tosses his bat after hitting a home run in the fourth inning against the Chicago White Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field on April 15, 2024 in Chicago, Illinois. | Photo by Jamie Sabau/Getty Images Vinnie! Vinnie! Man, the Chicago White Sox are so bad. Oh, yes, the Kansas City Royals have been very good this year. I’m just glad that they probably won’t be like the White Sox, who have somehow managed to only win two of their first 16 games. At the end of tonight’s 2-0 victory against said White Sox, Jeff Goldberg was interviewing Vinnie Pasquantino and ..read more

Kansas City, Missouri, USA; Kansas City Royals catcher Freddy Fermin (34) talks with pitcher Nick Anderson (63) at the mound against the Houston Astros after Anderson walks in a run in the sixth inning at Kauffman Stadium. | Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports The White Sox are bad! Gosh heckin’ darn tootin’ the Chicago White Sox are bad. To win two of your first 15 games? That’s the kind of start that dooms your season from the beginning. Even the 2023 Royals managed four wins in their first 15 games, and the 2023 Royals were an abomination unto the Lord. Put it this way: the White Sox are so bad t ..read more
