LA: Shops, Sights, Eats, + Carry-on Essentials

Ever since Brian and I went to Bali for our honeymoon a few Novembers ago, we made it a goal to travel somewhere warmer each year during the gloomiest months of the winter. With the non-stop Vancouver rain and both of us having some form of seasonal affective disorder, we thought it’d be a great annual excuse to get out of the city and get refreshed while spending quality time together. This past winter we spent five nights in LA, a city that’s close enough to not have to take too much time off for, but also far away enough to escape and get some much needed sun. This post has been a long tim ..read more

Shopbop BF Sale: A Few Things to Consider
Her Waise Choice

Coat, Sweater, Bag from ShopbopI’m sure many of you share the same sentiment, but I have very mixed feelings about Black Friday. The sheer consumerism and unnecessary spending deeply bother me, and the sales admittedly make me think I need more than I actually do. At the same time, though, it still is a good opportunity to get what I actually need or have truly considered at a better price. This Black Friday, I’ll mostly be sitting out of the shopping, save for a few necessities for Miles. That said, I will be picking up a few gifts and also planning ahead for a couple of needs in the new year ..read more

Five Foundational Pieces for Fall
Her Waise Choice

It’s been a little over a month now since I went back to work full time, and to say it’s been a challenge to find my groove is an understatement. Even though we have a lot of help, I still find myself feeling like I haven’t done everything I want to in a day. I constantly wonder how my parent’s generation made it look so easy: my mom worked a full time job, travelled for work, and still managed to get a fresh meal on the table for us every single night. I’m definitely having to learn to manage my expectations and also be a little more gentle with myself and what I can get done! It may seem tr ..read more

Six Tips for Easy Travel w. Monos
Her Waise Choice

Even though I love getting away and am super grateful to be able explore new destinations, I usually dread the actual travelling part of it. Between the stuffy, germy air, limited food options, and not being able to really stretch my legs for hours, it can all leave me feeling a little out of sorts. We just booked our first trip since Miles was born (we’re going to Hawaii!), so it seems perfectly fitting to share a few things I’ve learned over the years to make the experience of air travel as comfortable and easy as possible. I’m also so excited to feature these beautiful, minimal suitcases I ..read more

The Casual Jumpsuit of My Dreams
Her Waise Choice

Although I’ve got a lot of mixed feelings about going back to work full time in a few weeks, one thing I am looking forward to is having an excuse to not be in sweats all day. While I love the idea of dressing well even at home, I’ve learned this year that I’m decidedly not motivated enough to do so when there’s nowhere to be and nobody to see (except Miles, of course). As such, it’ll be a nice change to wear the bulk of the clothes in my closet again! One piece that has me particularly excited is this new Finn jumpsuit from Tradlands. This is my first piece from the popular ethical clothing ..read more

Something Blue
Her Waise Choice

When it comes to wedding guest attire, black has always been my go-to. Perhaps it’s because I think it’ll be more versatile for styling, or that I’ll be able to get more wear out of it, but it’s been a no questions asked kind of situation for me for a long time. Lately, I’ve found myself wanting to step out of that and take a style risk or two (at least for my standards). I was thisclose to choosing the black option for this Vetta jumpsuit, but something drew me to the muted blue option instead. While I wasn’t sure how it’d fare in my closet, I’ve been so pleasantly surprised about how versat ..read more

Bright, Minimal Nursery with Etsy Canada
Her Waise Choice

After Miles turned about 7 months old, I looked at his empty nursery and thought to myself that it was probably high time to get started on filling it. I know, I know – most first time parents seem to have the space all ready to go long before baby arrives. I’ve been a little slow on the uptake… but I am happy to finally share it with you now! In truth, I’ve actually really enjoyed the process of slowly bringing our home together since we moved in almost a year ago. Even though I do feel a bit anxious walking into a room with cardboard boxes against the walls and mismatched wood tones all ove ..read more

The Classic Summer Piece ft. Power of My People
Her Waise Choice

When it comes to wardrobe staples, I can’t think of too many styles more versatile than the classic white button down shirt. Refined yet casual, a good white shirt can work in so many different environments and lifestyles, and be worked into countless looks. Recently, I added this short-sleeved, linen version from local brand Power of My People to my closet, and I literally wore it three days in a row! And if it didn’t need a wash, I’m sure I would’ve continued. The breezy fabric content is perfect for summer, and the fit somehow manages to be both relaxed and tailored at once. It’s also very ..read more

Tread Forward

As with a lot of things in life, I tend to feel that sneakers are better when they’re simpler. I’m not a fan of logos or flashy colours on my shoes, so an all-white pair without an overt brand showing have been my style of choice for a long time. Last Thursday, Everlane debuted a sneaker that’s been a long time coming — according to their team it’s been 2 years, to be exact. They come off-white (and six other colours), and are completely logo-less and clean. They also happen to be the lowest impact sneaker of its kind and priced pretty fairly at $98 USD. I’ve been wearing them for a few weeks ..read more

My Favourite Everlane Pieces
Her Waise Choice

If you’re into well-made, well-priced basics, Everlane is a brand that you’ve probably encountered a whole lot by now. I’m personally a big fan: I’ve followed the company since the days when they only sold t-shirts, and still use the laptop case and carryall bag I saved up for when I was just out of university. On any given day, I typically find myself wearing at least one piece from the brand, so it’s basically a dream to get to partner with them regularly on the blog! For those of us North of the border, Everlane makes it pretty straightforward with customs and duties already added onto you ..read more
