"...I learned photography in the classic way, loading my own film, setting my f-stop and shutter speed, focusing manually, developing, and printing my images in the darkroom," street photographer Gretchen Grace tells the Phoblographer. "This process forms a connection to the medium, and black and white is typically where you begin. There is a depth and contrast to black and white that color sometimes misses." Indeed, if you pour your eyes over Gretchen's work, you'll understand exactly what she's saying ..read more

"To be honest, I don't know why but for me, it was important to bring my camera," says photographer Greta Rico in an interview with the Phoblographer referencing her Surrogate Mother photo project -- which started the day of her cousin's funeral. "I remember that when I arrived at the funeral home and hugged her sister, one of my cousins, I also asked her permission to take pictures, and she said yes." Taking photos at funerals isn't uncommon for a lot of us. Sometimes it's a way to hide. In other ways, we must remember what happened ..read more

Leica lens owners: want something really cool? We’re in the middle of a special deals period on Sony cameras and lenses. At the middle of it is the Sony a7c: which is perhaps Sony’s best camera to use with manual focus lenses. Additionally, it’s also their smallest full-frame camera with a rangefinder style camera body ..read more

Aside from Leica and Fujifilm, none of the major camera brands today have an interest in manufacturing digital rangefinders. Something I consider a real shame because nothing beats a rangefinder in terms of form factor and style quotient. Editor-in-chief Chris often says that most camera brands have stopped being creative. And when it comes to a style standpoint, he's absolutely right in this regard ..read more

Every time I talk to a rep at a camera company, I think that they have their heads in a space that's consumed by their smartphone and the web. This is why so many have said that photography is dying a slow death. When you go to Instagram or TikTok, they put no value on photos. But marketing reps and photographers all forget that life isn't all about social media. We'd know this best as millennials. Truly, photography isn't dying. It's going somewhere else, and it should start to make itself very comfortable ..read more

"I have found that the most difficult photographs to make are of people who are experiencing an emotional crisis," says photographer Mary F Calvert to The Phoblographer in an interview. "My goal is to make these pictures with integrity on my part while keeping their dignity intact. Like many photojournalists, this work does take an emotional toll on me, and at times I have to take a break from the project to replenish my psyche." Mary is one of the winners of the Leica Women Foto Project, and brings with her all the stories that one would expect from a photojournalist in America ..read more

As fantastic as your old DSLR lenses are, there's no denying that the mirrorless ones are far improved. In almost every aspect of image quality (except maybe lens character) they excel over their predecessors. But replacing all your lenses with a new mount system is expensive. The reluctance of photographers to do so is evident in the plethora of lens adapters available today. There are not too many of them however that provide shift capabilities as well. The Laowa Magic Shift converter provides you this option, allowing you to shift your DSLR ultra wide-angle lenses on your new mirrorless cam ..read more

"That's a really nice camera, mister," is what a young kid said to me the other day about the Pentax Spotmatic I slung around me. That put a smile on my face. And just think, years ago I gave my original Pentax Spotmatic away to someone who I felt needed it to grow as a photographer. I'm known to do this as I realize that I'm super fortunate running the Phoblographer. But over the years, I've missed that camera. What's worse, I haven't been able to find the crazy good deal that I got it for when I previously wrote about it. Since then I've written about it several times. When Blue Moon Camera ..read more
