Why I Built this Project I wanted to create easy Christmas tree decor with scrap lumber that I had on hand. Cedar fence pickets are only a few dollars if you don't have any scrap pieces laying around. I also had some scrap 1x3 pieces on hand, but you could also rip the fence pickets to get the back and bottom attached. Overall I'm super happy with this project that only took me about 30 minutes to build from start to finish. This cute tree adds the perfect festive decor for my countertop! I had fun playing around with how to top it off with some fun decor items from our local craft store. I lo ..read more

Why I Built this Project CALENDAR VISIBLE TO ALL FAMILY MEMBERS - With 3 kids in sports and other extracurricular activities, I needed a place where we could all be on the same page. I use my phone calendar, but this is a great way for other family members to add their schedule so everybody can see it while planning out the month ahead.  It's always visible to everyone in the home, so we are literally on the same page! CHANGING MONTHS - When months change, it's easy to just rotate the calendars upward, and set up the next month's calendar, since it's a dry erase board. KEY ORGANIZATION -T ..read more

Why I Built this Project Several years ago, I built a toy storage center for my young kids.  This was a very well made project that held up to lots of use (and abuse).   My kids are now older and not playing with toys much, but I didn't want to donate such a nice project.  I also needed an expanded mudroom in our basement, as the kids gear got larger in size and in now taking up more space. So what to do? I separated the bench from the bookshelf hutch and built a mudroom hutch and moved it all to the basement - For about $60 in materials, this toy storage center got converted ..read more

Why I Built this Project My niece has a small apartment with two large dogs.  She wanted a more attractive solution than a plastic kennel, and also wanted to be able to use the top surface as a tabletop and to support a large tv. They also wanted an open bottom so plastic pet trays could be easily slid under (and out) if needed for cleaning. Why We Love this Double Dog Crate Furniture  Much more attractive than a metal or plastic kennel Top is useable as a tabletop surface Easy to clean and use Double design for two dogs saves space and while keeping dogs separated Easy to customiz ..read more

4x8 Work Table Plans

Why I Built This Workbench I needed a big workbench that I can build large cabinet boxes and dressers, vanities, and tabletops on, but did not need anything super complicated or expensive - as I've got plenty of wall cabinetry storage. I did want some storage though, for wood pieces. So I designed this 4x8 workbench to be easy to build, based off using a full sheet of plywood and MDF, and a simple 2x4 framing under it. The cool thing about this project is I was able to build it entirely by myself - despite it being a very large and heavy project.     Video - How I Built this 4x8 Wor ..read more

Why We Love this Shiplap Fireplace TV Stand A couple years ago, I built a shiplap fireplace tv bump out for a boring room with flat ceilings.  The project completely transformed the room and created a focal point.  It was and still is one of my favorite projects of all time! See plans for full fireplace tv wall here We've had quite a few requests for a version in a fireplace tv stand format, that could be built freestanding and moved into a room, that could be used unattached to the wall.   I'm sorry it took me this long to get plans, but am super happy with this half height fi ..read more

Why I Built This Jewelry Organizer I live in a rental and am not able to hang things on the wall but needed a place to organize my jewelry so my necklaces weren't constantly tangled up. I came up with this countertop organizer for all the pretty little things and it has made picking out my jewelry for the day so much more fun! After building it, I have decided to build more to give as gifts.   How I Built This Project Here's how I built this jewelry organizer using 1x4 boards,  some 1x2s and pegboard - all scrap wood I had leftover from various projects!       &nbs ..read more

Why We Built this Garage Shelving Project My husband asked me to design a 20' long garage shelving project for his shop.   I've done many different garage shelving projects, and wanted to see if we could get even more storage and greater strength by changing up the materials a bit. This is my original garage shelving unit.  It was so quick and easy to build, I did it all by myself in a few hours, didn't even have to cut the shelving boards.  Loved it, but how to make stronger (for a workshop), sturdier, without bulky supports? The answer was using metal angle for the shelf supp ..read more

Why I Built this Project We all have that wasted space beside the toilet bowl, where the brush goes?  Do you ever wish you could just hide it all? And maybe store something?  And maybe create a decor shelf?  And maybe it all looks beautiful too? Well, here's a solution!  With just ONE fence picket, cut up into five pieces, you can build your own toilet accessory shelf!  This shelf fits in tight corners, and conceals the bowl brush and can store extra rolls of toilet paper.     Watch: Video of Building this Toilet Accessory Organizer Shelf   Free Plans t ..read more
