I have a 98 dodge dakota sport....the clutch is out but i can start it in first and it takès ofdand the ignition key cylinder is done for... my only option because i cant afford any new parts is to have my ignition stuck on start and put a kill switch on the ignition power wire to keep the trucks battery from being drained. Then all ill have to do is have it in gear and hit the clutch and ill automatically take off. I know it does this because I accidentally got the ignition key cylinder stuck in the start postion and the truck stalled at a stop sign and in accidentally hit the clutch and the ..read more

Hello, I have a 1997 dodge Dakota sport with the 5.2 318 magnum. I’ve been tearing it down which now is too the block. Im putting a .488"/.501" comp cam, longer push rods, melling lifters, shorty headers, and a set 5.9 magnum heads on it. I was wondering what is the biggest throttle body I could put on it without getting bigger injectors? And is a bigger throttle body even necessary, and do I need bigger injectors with these mods already as it stands.
thank you for the help in advance ..read more

Ive bought the cheap hoses once before for my evap canister that were Dorman for my 2003 Dakota and they cracked in no time. Where do I fine the OEM hoses for my truck? Im finding the part number for the 2 hoses is 5166499AA but on every mopar type site I go to shows it doesnt fit my truck. Im not sure if I have the SLT, Sport, Club, RT, Regular or whatever it is. My tailgate says SXT on it and its a 3.9L V6. Its 2 door and I dont think it has an extended bed. On all these sites ive tried, none of them will accept my VIN (I triple checked it with the one thru the windshield and the registratio ..read more

I have leak at the fuel rail connection point. The service manual says do not try to disconnect the hose from the fuel rails due to the design of this connection hose. The connecting hose looks like it is a fitted nylon hose using heat. A shop tried to repair but it has since failed again and I don't like fires. The fuel rail is discontinued and I cannot find its replacement anywhere. Suggestions?
The fix below was my attempt to fix a larger leak that mostly worked. I added protection from the heat as that was part of the problem with the shop's attempted fix.
Thanks,

Hi I have a 98 Dakota 5.2 recently replaced motor with same motor from a 97 ram 1500. I have checked my asd relay everything was good there have power where I’m supposed to relay tested good on my relay tester. The issue I’m having is I have no power to my ign coil which is giving me a no spark no run problem. I’ve replaced my crank POs sensor and fixed any bad wiring. Tried a test pcm from a 98 Durango 5.2 no change in problem. Checked all grounds and replaced main grounds at battery. Replaced power wire from fuse box to battery. Replaced lock cylinder and ign switch. Have fuel pressure at sc ..read more

l have a 99 Dak, 5.2 with, what I believe, is a NV3500 5 speed transmission. Of course this truck is geared like a truck. I am retired and use it for my everyday cruiser. I would like to put in a trans that will shift more like a car since I don't really haul anything. I would prefer a 5 speed. Looking for suggestions. I'm sure this has been discussed before but I am new to the forum and really haven't figured out how to search the topics. I plan on some mild upgrades to the 5.2 and maybe even a full stroker. Thanks in advance for the info ..read more

I have a 99 Dakota with the 5.2L magnum (250k miles)that I just picked up a couple months ago. First thing I did was install new plugs(Autolite 5224) serpentine belt and air filter. Ran great with no codes. Recently it threw a P0303 so I installed new plug wires, then new cap and rotor. I swapped #1 and #3 injectors to see if it was the injector but I still get a P0303 code. #3 cylinder has 120 psi and I have no vacuum in the crankcase so it can't be the valley pan gasket. There is a noticeable mis coming from the exhaust pipe and at idle and the spark plug is grey ashen which tells me it's ru ..read more
