In addition to having a gorgeous line of Framus signature guitars, Devin Townsend also uses Kiesel guitars, and one of the big surprises this NAMM is Devin’s all new Kiesel model, the NEO. From Kiesel: NEO is here. Working with the acclaimed Devin Townsend, Kiesel Guitars meticulously designed and crafted the guitar into a compact, unique, headless instrument. The model is available in two editions: the Circle, a color-finished, 27-fretted guitar with a single Devin Townsend Fishman pickup and the Circle inlay, and the Om, a natural-aesthetical, 32-fretted guitar with three Kiesel S60A pickup ..read more

NAMM 2024: New Music Man Axis colours
I Heart Guitar
by Peter Hodgson

If you know me you you know I’m a huge nerd for any and all Eddie Van Halen-associated guitar designs. The Music Man Axis is, of course, a slightly modified version of Eddie’s old Ernie Ball Music Man guitar, and for the last several years the colour options haven’t really done it for me at all. It looks like 2024 is gonna turn things around because look at these babies. Available midyear, Music Man says “The Axis and Axis Super Sport are offered with a roasted, figured maple neck, 22 stainless steel frets, and 4 exciting all-new finishes. Available with your choice of flame or qui ..read more

‘Mikkel Lives’
I Heart Guitar

On Friday I was at work in a local guitar store doing my regular techin’ and repairs thing. We’ve had a gorgeous left-handed Fiesta Red Fender American Vintage II 61 Stratocaster on the wall for quite a few months, and while rearranging the lefty display, the guitar department manager noticed that the action was super high on that guitar. So I took it to the tech room to give it a little bit of love. It was clear the neck needed a truss rod adjustment after going from winter to summer. So I removed the strings, popped the neck off and saw this: ‘Mikkel Lives.’ Who was Mikkel? This was clear ..read more

INTERVIEW: Walter Trout
I Heart Guitar
by Peter Hodgson

Walter Trout is that rare breed, a true blues journeyman with an enviable resume and an inimitable voice on the guitar. His sound is lyrical, earthy, bold, capable of both energy and restraint, but always impeccably phrased and with an unearthly sense of playing with time, drifting on, off and around the beat in a way that just can’t be taught: that kinda stuff has to be lived and felt. I caught up with Walter ahead of his 2024 Australian tour. Walter: Hi, Peter.  Peter: Hi Walter! We’ve talked before, but over the phone before all this Zoom stuff became a thing. So, I have a g ..read more

Say, who likes great news? Like one of the coolest pedals ever, returning to production? Personally I love my DigiTech FX25 Envelope Filter, and a lot of players dig that thing, but a lot more lust after the DOD Envelope Filter 440. This pedal is kinda hard to find these days because nobody wants to sell them once they have one. But now it’s back in all its green glory! Here’s the press release. SALT LAKE CITY — DigiTech/DOD announces the eagerly anticipated relaunch of the DOD Envelope Filter 440 effects pedal. Suitable for guitar and bass players, the 440 is known for its vowel-like sounds ..read more
