Welcome to a sunny and mild weekend! We finally will break up the cloud cover after a record breaking cloudy January. Not only will we hold on to our sunny skies this week but we will carry those sunshine chances into next week. Expect to stay dry now through next Thursday before rain arrives. The warmer temperatures will last too not only this week but likely into next week as well. On average we should be around 31 degrees for an average day time high this time of year. The winter warmth continues as we wrap up January and kick off the month of February. Below is a look at our temperature trend this week as we keep daytime highs in the upper 30s and lower 40s. At times this is almost a good 10 degrees above average. We will continue this trend into next week as we start February. The climate predication center puts us in above average temperatures for the next 8 to 14 days. We will continue to see spotty showers through this weekend. Waking up on Saturday to very light drizzle before a bit of a break in any rain until later Saturday evening. A spotty shower is possible early in the evening hours, otherwise better rain chances arrive overnight. Best showers will be mainly along and south of I-96 and are expected to be light. The rain can switch over into a bit of wintry mix or light snow mostly SE of Kalamazoo more towards the east side of the state. Were meteor showers really seen in West Michigan? Maybe some fireballs happened? Wednesday night chatter across the area started as some people reported seeing meteors or fireballs in the night sky. According to the American Meteor Society, this time of year it is possible to see the November Leonids or Southern and Northern Taurids light up the sky. The Southern Taurids have a long active period from September 23rd to December 8th but rarely produces more than 5 shower members per hour, even at maximum activity. The suspect who was in custody in the investigation of the fatal stabbing of a Detroit synagogue leader has been released, a lawyer told 7 Action News Saturday. The suspect's lawyer Allison Kriger declined to comment further. No charges have been filed in the case. Samantha Woll, 40, was president of Isaac Agree Downtown Synagogue. West Michigan woke up to gorgeous conditions and will hold on to plenty of sunshine all day long with light winds and more comfortable humidity levels. Rain is expect to arrive for Monday and Tuesday. The system isn't due to push into our region until Monday afternoon leading to a dry morning commute to kick off the work week. According to Michigan State Police (MSP), distracted driving is the fastest growing safety issue today.
