Visited a couple of my usual haunts and came home with this 1974 Nickel 3rd Issue Detective Special for $800 and Faux ivory grips for $15. A nice mate for the 1981 GCNM that followed me home last Saturday. Attached Images 7C3860CB-2E9A-4FBB-A052-122314A6D26A.jpg (95.1 KB) 71B98E47-64B6-42BF-ADDA-E8C7659985E1.jpg (94.5 KB ..read more

Turks and Caicos Islands - Beware
Smith & Wesson Forum

I watched an episode of Nightline last night. One story was about four Americans arrested for having ammunition in their baggage. Apparently inadvertently. One man had five rounds, do not know about the others. No guns, just forgotten ammo. Under a recent TCI law, possession of guns or ammunition carries an automatic minimum penalty of 12 years in prison. And the U.S. State Department can do nothing to help. I have never even thought about visiting TCI, and definitely never will ..read more

Reminder that off-body carry is a caution

Just got a call from my brother. He's at a state park in Indiana (admission charged at a gate up front) with his two sons (5 & 9) and lady, and he ran across a sling pack sitting on a bench. He had a suspicion and looked inside: there was a pistol. (He said it was a Springfield Armory but I didn't press him beyond that.) Called me and said, "What should I do?" (My brother carries and knows how to handle guns. He didn't want to just leave it there because he was afraid a kid might get into it.) I told him to pull the magazine, rack the slide and lock it open, and put it back in the pack, t ..read more

Putting the Argument to Rest: The Indisputable Best Self-Defense Caliber/Cartridge.
Smith & Wesson Forum
by Echo40

For generations folks have argued over what's the best Caliber/Cartridge for Self-Defense? The argument is generally a worthless waste of time with most people just arguing in favor of their preferred cartridge with little or no objective facts to backup their claims, meanwhile there was always one objectively ideal cartridge for Self-Defense, but few folks are bold enough to come right out and say it because they know they'll get bombarded with baseless arguments against their claim. Fortunately, I'm bold enough to say it once and for all, right here, right now... The best Caliber is .729 a ..read more

Sight / sight plane question FPC

I've been digging for info on these the past few days. 99% seem to go with a red dot and maybe folding sights as backup. I'd prefer dedicated irons I think. I'm wondering if standard height AR sights get you to a good sighting plane, or if riser blocks are needed to avoid craning the head to get low enough. Thanks in advance ..read more

Loading 625 with a footbal cutout grip?
Smith & Wesson Forum

I love a good original target grip on my revolvers. I have two L-frame revolvers right now, both with diamond target grips. A 625 with 3" barrel is high on my wish list. Very rare in Europe but I have seen them. I am saving up an exceptionally nice speedloader N-frame target grip for a 625. But I have sight on a nice diamond target grip which I like more.   So my question, is loading full moon clips with a football cutout grip good to do?  Loading my 686 with jetloaders is not good to do ..read more
