Nikolai Fox - Two Fiddle Tunes for Guitar

Quick post. In 2008 Nikolai Fox released the really cool docu Music for the Sky with eccentric revivalist old-time fiddlers living in Vermont and Western Massachusetts, USA. It also features a young Anthony Pasquarosa playing old time music, John Specker and others. On this digital single, Fox rearranged two classic fiddle tunes for guitar (hence the title). It's really sweet and I can't recommend it enough. [bandcamp:album=2782277411] read full post Follow: facebook / twitter / tumblr / bandcamp / youtube / soundcloud ..read more

Dfbm #113 - Morning Raga Pt. 25

A new mix of solo acoustic guitar music has been long overdue. This year has seen the release of some great new music as well as the rediscovery of some older, lesser known recordings that are worth presenting. For example Gerhard Baum's album "Scrambled Eggs" and Wolfgang Barthel's "Magic Guitar Ride" from 1982 are two very interesting records. Both artists are German, as evidenced by their ridiculous album titles. However, their music is good and all original. Kottkes' fast playing has influe read full post Follow: facebook / twitter / tumblr / bandcamp / youtube / soundcloud ..read more

There are many questions that no one has asked me yet. Like “Is the label dead?”, “Are you still reviewing music?”, “Are there any new mixtapes coming?”, “Isn't American Primitive deemed a slur/cultural appropriation/inappropriate/exclusive?”, “Do you even like music anymore?” read full post Follow: facebook / twitter / tumblr / bandcamp / youtube / soundcloud ..read more

Here is the 24th booster shot of steel-string solo acoustic guitar from North America and Europe. The shots are more spaced out these days, and there is no immunity in sight for me... I mean for making these mixes. I still love this music. It's another two hours of old and new, somewhat known and lesser-known guitar slingers. Since there is an increased chance that someone calls the cops if I mention American Primitive or god beware use Finish or French Primitivism to describe the music, I leave read full post Follow: facebook / twitter / tumblr / bandcamp / youtube / soundcloud ..read more

Tomáš Niesner, along with his buddy Jakub Šimanský is one of the few solo acoustic guitar artists from a country that should get more attention musically. After a gorgeous guitar album with Šimanský, a contribution to Tompkins Square records solo guitar compilation Imaginational Anthem Vol. X and a handful experimental recordings, Niesner adds his first solo acoustic-guitar album to his catalogue. To get some insight into the inner workings of a Bohemian rhapsodist, enjoy this interview co read full post Follow: facebook / twitter / tumblr / bandcamp / youtube / soundcloud ..read more

So many playlists so little time. Obviously making these playlists and the cover artwork and then the posting takes longer than using something like Spotify. Of course, it shouldn't take 6 months. Anyways, this is more rock music-oriented (in the broadest sense) with many tracks that never really fit on any other of my mixes that are more acoustic in nature. Hopefully, you will enjoy spending two hours with these motorik beats, garage psych, a real electronic raga, some post-punk and whatnot. A happy and healthy year 2021, a happy 1st birthday to covid 19 that still chokes us and leaves us without any taste and happy new president to the USA. After getting that off my chest I want to move on and tease another two hours of steel string guitar euphoria of my mix series Morning Raga TL;DR In spring last year, Tompkins Square Records asked me if I want to curate another edition of their famous compilation series Imaginational Anthem and of course I said yes, despite the fact that there w read full post Follow: facebook / twitter / tumblr / bandcamp / youtube / soundcloud ..read more

Welcome to the Christmas season with festive guitar solis, two banjo pieces and one fiddle tune. TL;DR There is quite a gap between the last mixes and reviews here on this site and this fresh new holiday mix. I would love to talk about what happened, but it's just as half as important compared to what many other people experienced, like loss of income or loved ones. I could bemoan that Christmas here where I live is always white and this year it's just a bit frost in the morning and during the d read full post Follow: facebook / twitter / tumblr / bandcamp / youtube / soundcloud ..read more

Things changed since the last Songs for Wild Nothing mixtape. We have to believe that everything has to go worse before it gets better. I don't know if that is true. What I know is true, that music is beautiful and hopefully helps to get through bad times. But we have to take care of the musicians, else there is not even music left, only spotify playlists with AI generated audio.1 TL;DR Dust-to-Digital, if they don't make superb records, they post little bits and pices of historic, music related read full post Follow: facebook / twitter / tumblr / bandcamp / youtube / soundcloud ..read more
