The 2024 playoffs move on to the next round today as the National League Championship Series begins. The visiting New York Mets will be taking the Los Angeles Dodgers. So you know what that means, we’re all now the biggest Mets fans in the world. (What could possibly go wrong with trusting the Mets?)

Taking the mound for the Mets will be right-hander Kodai Senga, who only pitched five innings in t ..read more

A scientist couldn’t figure it out, but maybe we internet posters can?
These are trying times for a baseball blogger. We live in a suppositional interspace now that the San Francisco Giants have installed a new dude at the top of their Baseball Operations. Sure, that dude is literally Buster Posey, but that doesn’t make it any easier to imagine how the team will go about improving the roster heading into 2025.
It’s not that Farhan Zaidi was easy to predict but you could filter out certain players pretty easily just given some basic markers like strike ..read more

BEAT LA.
Good morning, baseball fans!
Tonight, we all become the world’s biggest San Diego Padres fans as they take on the Los Angeles Dodgers in the final game of the National League Division Series. The winner of tonight’s game will go on to face the New York Mets in the National League Championship Series on Sunday.
As of the time this is being written on Thursday, the Dodgers had not announced a starting pitcher. Whoever it ends up being will be facing off against Padres right-hander Yu Darvish, who ended the 2024 regular season with a 3.31 ERA, 4.09 FIP, wi ..read more

Pete Alonso just helped the Mets get to the National League Championship Series... Could his bat help power the Giants in 2025 and beyond?
As Pete Alonso stepped into the batter’s box in the 9th inning of the decisive game three of the Wild Card series against the Brewers, my brother-in-law commented that if Alonso didn’t do anything in this at-bat he would go down as “the most hated Met of all time.”
An extreme statement, but that’s where New York sports fans reside—the extremes. It was October after all. Every trip to the plate prior, Alonso ..read more

2024 was a career year for the veteran San Diego outfielder, and he continues to make headlines in the postseason. Should San Francisco try to get in on the fun and sign Profar when he becomes a free agent in the off-season'?
Three weeks into February, Jurickson Profar didn’t have a Major League contract. Not a particularly unique predicament given the off-season’s market, but Profar’s situation was fundamentally different from the marquee free agents like Matt Chapman or Blake Snell.
There were no multi-year deals, player friendly clauses, or crooked number figu ..read more

More questions, and maybe even more answers.
On Saturday, I fielded a whole bunch of mailbag questions about the San Francisco Giants. There was an overflow, so here we are with some more.
Thanks for the questions, everyone.
According to recent MLB farm system rankings, the San Francisco Giants farm system is considered one of the worst in baseball. Is that true? If so, what will it take to make it great again?
