Muhammad's quest to marry Zaynab involved multiple prophecies and touched many lives. Here we learn about his special relationship with Zayd, his not-so-special relationship with Saowda, his almost-not-a-relationship with Rayhana, a postscript about a girl named Umm Kulthum - and the prophecies that guided them all on the straight path. Having a prophet close at hand - how convenient!

I am proud and happy to announce that Unsheathed now has an Arabic translation. A dear friend who knows his craft laboured for many hours to produce Al-Sayf al-Mushra'a, which you can now read for free by clicking this link.

If you can read Arabic, please do take a look and let me know of any problems with the text. In due course we hope to issue a paper-and-ink edition that you can hold in your hands but to date we are still negotiating with our publisher.
Please share this link with everyone who reads ..read more

This is not a new video but a new edition of the previous "Family of Muhammad", this time with a voice-over narrator instead of written text. Although the new edition is nearly twice as long as the first, it may be easier to digest.
Don't try to memorise the individual facts in this one. Rather, soak in the impression of the men, women and children who entered and exited Muhammad's homes; how his childhood experiences must have shaped him; and how in later life his mission as a prophet might have influenced how he treated those in closest orbit to him.
Thank you to our new narrator, F ..read more

Every scholar of Islam knows that Muhammad married Aisha when she was nine years old. Yet cyberspace is littered with so many non-scholars who claim that she was some other age that some people assume that Aisha's age is debatable.
The "debate" is nearly always derived from the work of Moiz Amjad, and in this video, we explain why Amjad is wrong ..read more

One possible answer is twenty-six.
In fact the answer to this question depends on how we define a “wife”. Only eleven of Muhammad’s wives are officially known as “Mother of the Faithful”, which is why the number eleven appears so frequently among traditional Muslim answers. However, Muhammad was legally married to at least twelve other women, although nine of these marriages were never consummated. He also had three concubines, which is the opposite situation - sexual partners who did not hold the status of wife. These 11 + 3 + 9 + 3 add up to a total of 26. Here are their names.

On Friday July 16, 2021 at 7:30 p,m. (Eastern Standard Time) Dr. Michael Brown will be joining me to discuss some Jewish objections against Jesus being the Messiah. Islam recognizes Jesus as the Messiah as he is called 'Isa al-Masih' (Jesus the Messiah) throughout the Qur'an. The problem however is that the Qur'an never defines what "Messiah" means. Jews and Christians know what it means, but the Qur'an leaves the term undefined. Some Muslim commentators even argued that "Messiah" means that Jesus was a wandering prophet which is grossly erroneous. Join us this Friday evening. I ..read more
