BFGoodrich is finally ready to get down and dirty with the KO3 tire

I don’t typically get excited about new tire news. This is different, though. Nearly ten years ago, I was introduced to the amazing world of all things off-road by way of a tire launch event down in Mexico. BFGoodrich invited me to sample the then-new KO2, and it blew up my brain. I loved not just the tire but the experiences it could deliver. Eventually, I purchased my own off-road-ready vehicle, and there was never a doubt about what tires I’d be using. Time marches on, however, and it’s time for the KO2 to evolve… and so it has, into the new KO3. According to BFGoodrich, the engineers have ..read more

The Kia EV9 is Expensive but also Excellent
Hooniverse
by Jeff Glucker

As tested, this particular Kia EV9 costs $74,000. That’s an electrified buoyed-up boatload of cash. And this one is still one below the top-spec GT-Line model. Plus, there’s talk of a bonkers high-performance EV9 GT still to come. That said, the EV9 delivers excellent range, great power, fun styling, a lovely interior, and tremendous charging speeds. So, given the idea of high transaction prices for all vehicles, does this one start to make sense? This is a Kia EV9 Land. Goofy trim name aside, it’s a dual-motor AWD EV with a 99.8-kWh battery back. The power on tap is rated at 379 hp and 516 l ..read more

2024 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison Quick Review
Hooniverse
by Ross Ballot

The 2024 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison is the biggest the brand has ever gone with its midsize truck, chucking an enormous amount of off-road equipment at the platform to the degree that it compromises the vehicle’s ability to actually be a pickup. We didn’t engage low range in our time with the ZR2 Bison, but we did spend some time blasting down unpaved roads when not using it as a daily driver (I.e., how most owners will). (While we did subject this vehicle to our regular routine, we didn’t drive it enough to warrant  full-fledged, traditional review. What follows is a quick rundown of w ..read more

Co-founder of Hooniverse Tim Odell lives in Fremont, California. While walking through his neighborhood, he noticed something a bit off in one of the driveways. There sits not one but two Byton K-Byte prototypes. What the hell is going on here? View this post on Instagram A post shared by Tim Odell (@tim_with_the_cars) Byton was a Chinese company headquartered in Nanjing, China. It was started by former executives from BMW and Nissan with the goal of creating electric vehicles on a large scale. Lots of money was spent on a factory. Investors bought in. Two prototype models, the K-Byte se ..read more

2024 Land Rover Range Rover Velar Quick Review: Form Over Function
Hooniverse
by Ross Ballot

If the Range Rover is the financial statement of a vehicle in Land Rover’s ever-growing catalog, then the Velar is a fashion statement. Everything about the Velar’s existence comes by way of or at the expense of form over function, which manifests in its glorious curb appeal while simultaneously shooting itself in the foot on the usability front. It’s haute couture in SUV form if there ever was such a thing, and that makes for both a good and bad thing. (While we did subject this vehicle to our regular routine, we didn’t drive it enough to warrant  full-fledged, traditional review. What f ..read more

I wasn’t planning on pulling it this day. But when I glanced in the engine bay, I could see that the only things keeping it connected to the car were a linkage and the engine mounts. So I hooked up my hoist, removed the remaining connected bits, and started cranking. And here we are… the engine is out! 2024 BMW X5 M Competition Quick Review: A Practical Monster
Hooniverse

Fast SUVs used to be the laughing stock of the enthusiast world, vehicles deemed silly and pointless, but they’ve been a hot topic for well over a decade now. The first BMW X5 M launched in 2010, a time when a performance-oriented family hauler meant tradeoffs galore for a mediocre outcome, but the vehicle has undergone a serious transformation over time, its 4.4-liter V8 now good for 617 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque, its chassis and suspension and accompanying tech readying for battle. I (happily) spent a week (to my surprise, thanks guys!) with the 2024 X5 M Competition and fell in lov ..read more

2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N: Street and Track, Ready

If you were thinking of getting a daily driver that you could also take to the track, I’m sure for most of you reading this, an EV isn’t part of that discussion. Hyundai wants to change the conversation, though, and thus the automaker has cooked up an EV for the enthusiast. At least, that’s the goal here with the Ioniq 5 N. Is it ready to battle it out for lap times, then battle it out in traffic come Monday morning? The answer is… absolutely. [Disclaimer: Hyundai put me up in a hotel near Laguna Seca and gave me food. I didn’t fly to this event, though, instead, I drove a different EV there ..read more

6th generation toyota 4runner debuts as 2025 model with new Trailhunter trim
Hooniverse

The last time the world saw an all-new Toyota 4Runner was only a few months into President Obama’s first term. Obviously a lot has transpired since then, but the 5th generation 4Runner endured from 2009 through 2024 largely unchanged short of trim, tech, suspension, and appearance changes; at its core, the truck remained very much the same, for better and worse. And now, finally, Toyota has dropped the all new 6th generation of its storied SUV, with deliveries starting in the fall of 2024. We’re big fans of the Toyota 4Runner (and Toyota 4x4s in general) here at Hooniverse. Chris Tracy owned ..read more
