A designer’s mid-century modern Long Island ranch
Desire To Inspire

Designer Cara Woodhouse and her family live in this fabulous modernist Long Island ranch and in her typical bold, graphic and step-outside-the-box way, she has created a whimsical space filled with circles and curves that really add warmth and a level of coziness. I would not have expected this vibe to work so well in this style of home but she really nailed it. I would have loved growing up in a house like this. So inspiring! Photos: Brian Wetzel ..read more

Desire To Inspire

Surrey-based interior designers Pringle & Pringle completely reimagined this Victorian property, overcoming its unconventional layout to create a unique home. The floorplan was redesigned for practicality and aesthetics, featuring four separate entertaining spaces, ensuites for each bedroom and a central family kitchen. Matching limewashed walls, chevron flooring and Carrara marble fireplaces unite the reception rooms. Functional spaces were elevated with bespoke joinery and custom designs personalized each child’s bedroom. Photography by Alexander James ..read more

A garden in the East Suffolk countryside
Desire To Inspire
by KiM

This design makes the most of the old agricultural yard surrounding beautifully converted residential barns, set in the idyllic East Suffolk countryside. Hard and soft materials are carefully chosen to sensitively integrate the garden with the character of the barns and the local landscape setting. Sweeping, curving pathways lead through the rest of the garden, connecting various destination points and seating areas. Naturalistic planting design flows throughout the garden, set against a restrained hardscape of limestone pavers and gravel. Perennial planting area ..read more

Amidst the pandemic, a client sought a retreat from her busy life and purchased a 45 sq m studio in NW Portland. Casework transformed the pied-a-terre into her perfect getaway. Imagined as a recharging station, the space features vibrant palettes, pastels, patterns, and animal prints. Key highlights include Kate Blairstone’s Tigress wallpaper in the entry and Heirloom Roses wallpaper creating a semi-custom headboard. Photography by George Barberis ..read more

When tradition meets contemporary elegance
Desire To Inspire

Wisteria by Carter Williamson is a meticulous expression of simplicity and purity, an airy pavilion in Victorian ash. Inspired by traditional Japanese homes, it complements a restored Federation bungalow in Sydney’s inner west, embracing sunlight and a strong connection with the outdoors. Located in a heritage conservation area, this bright, spacious addition respects the home’s history while adding contemporary layers. It features a double-height void with a fireplace, rhythmic brickwork, polished concrete, timber framing, and steel and marble accents. The design harmonizes with the existing ..read more

Modern minimalism for art collectors in Las Vegas
Desire To Inspire

This apartment in Las Vegas goes against everything you think of when you think “modern minimalism”. For starters there is COLOUR. I was fully expecting this to be an all white apartment. Which would have been BLEH. And I get it when you collect art that you need a neutral backdrop to showcase it. But here designer Daniella Villamil used a pale blue – Farrow & Ball’s Borrowed Light. Such a pretty alternative to white! And a green kitchen – YESSSSS!!! (It is Benjamin Moore’s Forest Green). There is also a level of comfort thanks to a big squishy sectional sofa, a shaggy rug, lime washed be ..read more

Completed in September 2019 after an 18 month build…The garden contains dual level sawn Yorkstone dining terraces with bespoke steps, a 12m-long living wall, and a water feature running the entire length of the garden. The space is divided into distinct zones; close to the house it is formal in character, with crisp clean lines of sawn Yorkstone paving. The lowest terrace provides an Iroko bench with outdoor seat cushions, creating a comfortable lounge area beneath the verdant living wall. Deep Yorkstone steps lead up to the dining terrace and to a lawn with planted borders. Stepping-sto ..read more

A sympathetically restored 1886 trading house in Sweden
Desire To Inspire

(Google Translate) In Hälsingland, where the Ljusnan river winds its way through the landscape, lies this fantastic property – an old trading house from 1886 in central Arbrå. Completely renovated in collaboration with a conservator with, among other things, hand-printed tapestries throughout the house, cardboard stretched ceilings, of which the hall has a beautiful ceiling painting. The wallpapers are reprints of models from the early years of the house, mostly found in the lowest layers of wallpaper. Between 1890 and 1980, the area’s well-known shoe store was located on the ground floor and ..read more
