Tillman Quilt
Emma named this quilt for her sweet friends that visited her in the store. They would bring Emma flowers like those on the quilt. Emma said she put in the last stitch October 27, 1941.

29 blocks from my vintage redwork block collection. I am guessing at c 1900 for these. Some designs were available commercially and some as you can tell are original designs by the maker.
Click HERE for the patterns. Redwork is a fun take along when traveling or for those times when you have to wait for appointments. I like to do them while I watch TV also.
Trace the patterns using a light box or a window. I use a red permanent pen Sakura Pigma Micron.
Use a good quality fabric such as Kona Cotton Quilt Fabric

Years ago I wanted to make patterns for my redwork quilts and blocks. I did share one set long ago.
I ran across files where I had them ready to share, but why I did not post to the blog is a mystery.

48 States Redwork Quilt 1935-1938 Emma purchased the patterns from the Home Arts Needlecraft Company. Emma hand embroidered all the blocks, which took about a year. Note the broken needle saved in the scrapbook. This is my favorite quilt, I have a real passion for redwork. I have a set of the exact 48 blocks. The set of blocks, by the Rainbow Quilt Block Co could be purchased in 1933 for $1.59.My set was completed with colored thread. Someday hope to complete my interpretation of this quilt ..read more

Out Where the West Begins 1934 This was Emma's original design. Took over a year to complete. The scrapbook says she dye the brown fabric around the pictures. When Emma entered the quilt in the local fair years after it was completed, much was made about the swastika design in the border. Of course most know the swastika design was not recognized as bad until after WWII. The swastika was use in native Indian designs ..read more

Double Wedding Ring (top only) 1933 Emma's scrapbook says the Sister at the House of Good Shepherd quilted the top. Emma donated to the quilt to the Altar Society, it raised $36. Location unknown ..read more
