When this bakery opened back in 2021, I swear, it changed my life. I know that sounds dramatic, but their pastries are irresistible. The owners Elin and Yoeri started the bakery together as a couple and they are so kind. Elin makes all the cakes, croissants, and other pastries. Yoeri makes different types of bread. In the first year of the bakery, they had a baby together, so Elin would knead the dough with her son in the baby carrier.
The bakery has an open floor plan, so you can see them work during the day, and if they have time they love to answer questions. Everything is sourdough based ..read more

Are you a coffee snob? This is the place for you! Good beans is a little tiny teeny tiny coffee place in the city center. It belongs to the roastery of ‘Fucking Strong Cofffee’ and they make incredible blends from beans all over the world. Their slogan: It’s coffee, not caviar. When you talk to one of the owners, Cody, you can really tell they want their coffee to be accessible to everybody, which I really like. They also have special blends for special occasions, such as the winterblend they release every year in December.
What I get most of the time when I go there is an iced latte with ..read more

This spot became one of my favorites while I was still in high school, so I have been going here for a decade now. During our lunch break, the whole school would go here. Back then, you could get a sandwich for 2 euros, but inflation paid its price in the last decade and now a sandwich is around 5 euros. Still, a good deal because they make everything fresh right in front of you.
One person is in charge of baking all the bread and peaks around the corner with a hot tray of fresh buns once in a while. Two other people make all the sandwiches. There is no seating area, but the whole neighborhood ..read more

Cafe de Tuin used to be the cafe where my parents would go with their friends before I was born. And after I was born, they would take me with them and I would sleep peacefully while they had fun with their friends. When I got to an age where I could drink beer and had my own group of friends to meet up with, we would always go to Cafe de Tuin.
The people that come here are very different: old men drink their Dutch liquor called ‘Jenever’ at the bar, while people in their thirties have a nice night updating each other about their lives. And in between all of that were me and my high school fri ..read more

If you are from Amsterdam, you have been to Monte Pelmo.
This ice cream shop in the heart of the ‘De Jordaan’ neighborhood, is the absolute best. Generations of Amsterdam inhabitants have known about this place. Monte Pelmo was founded in 1957 and they have had a shop at this address since 1981. My family is an example of these generations of customers:
In the summertime after dinner, my family and I would take our bikes and go to Monte Pelmo to get dessert. After swimming lessons, we got a Monte Pelmo scoop as a reward. When I graduated high school, me and my classmates went and got 2 scoops ..read more

If you love wine as much as I do and are looking for a warm and inviting atmosphere, delicious wines, and a variety of snacks, then look no further than the pop-up Cru wine club in Amsterdam!
This newly created wine community is becoming my favorite as a wine enthusiast, and I am glad I got introduced to it by a friend. I recently attended a pop-up event and was impressed by the attention to detail that the founders Lenka and Kate put into every aspect of the evening. From the cava welcome drink to the spring-themed flowers that adorned the room, everything was perfect. The atmosphere was frie ..read more

Having a range of food to pick from while ordering, I used to rarely order pizza. Mostly because it is really hard to find a pizza that has the perfect crust and toppings. This changed during corona for me. With the saying “support your locals” I thought let’s order food from the pizza place nearby, Mangiassai. We had no clue what to expect, but it definitely changed my view of pizza in Amsterdam.
Mangiassai is this very lovely Italian place, where all of the pizza makers speak Italian. Coming in and hearing them speak, feels like you have a small break from reality, and you are surrounded by ..read more

Pong – House of Ping in Amsterdam is a spot where you can play ping-pong while having a drink or enjoying a snack.
I came across Pong bar when a friend invited me to a small concert taking place in one of their rooms (they have several: a dining/bar room, a hallway and a party room).
Aaaand I was impressed! This is the perfect spot if you aim to do something different, going beyond the regular drink or snack (try out their Vietnamese spring rolls!) on a Friday night. I think that it is also a great spot for celebration with friends (like a birthday or gathering).
Pong – House of Ping organizes ..read more

Lokaal van de Stad in Amsterdam is a truly magical place around sunset, overlooking a wide canal called the Westlandgracht which marks the border between the Nieuw-West and Zuid neighborhoods.
I like coming here on warm and sunny days to enjoy a local beer (they have a very wide selection, my personal favorite is the Funky Falcon from the Amsterdam brewery Two Chefs) and a hummus pita platter with friends. However, you can also enjoy one of the many lunch or dinner meals. As a romantic person, what makes it special is the small terrace overlooking a wide canal, which to me is the perfect place ..read more

Bar Parry will take a summer holiday and will be closed from the 17th of July till the 2nd of August this year. Keep this in mind!
I came across Bar Parry in Amsterdam while cycling on this small street of Jordaan.
What caught my attention at first were the small outdoor tables and candles visible through the front window. Sooo charming!
Then, I got to learn it’s a wine bar in the Jordaan neighborhood. Here, you can enjoy a charcuterie platter or small dishes and get a wine by the glass from an extremely large selection which Bar Parry usually gets through a famous wine shop called Wijnwi ..read more
