Coffee and Kids – Fun for both teams

What do I think about this place? It feels like some kind of cheat code for parenting that many parents in Amsterdam don’t know ’bout. Hence, a place where your kids can come play with others while you also have a fun day too with other parents in the same establishment? Pass the code, please! Coffee and Kids is a serene, exciting place for your children because it features an array of unique toys and workshops to spark their creativity and keep them engaged all day long. These ‘play and create’ sessions are taught by friendly teachers so your children and their minds are in safe hands! Now we ..read more

There’s just something special about a place that throws its arms open to family. Located on Marie Baronlaan 19, Haddock is one of the most family/kid-friendly places you can visit in Amsterdam. There is food for everyone! Vegan? Vegetarian? Strict seafood eater? Not a problem at all. My kids are in love with the fries. And then there are the truffle croquettes… Oooh! Simply marvelous! Most excitingly, the kids can go off to the play area where there are toys and games waiting. With the adults left alone for a while (winks!), the alcohol can come out to play freely. It’s a full bar, people! Wh ..read more

Hicret – A cute turkish bakery

I have been going to Hicret for as long as I can remember. It is in the area of the neighborhood I grew up in and they have been open since I was a kid. And when I used to work around the corner I would spend basically half my salary by getting lunch from them every. single. day. Hicret is a Turkish bakery that sells amazing pastries and bread. Turkish bread was a staple in our household whenever we did a BBQ. But honestly, they have more amazing things. They have Borek, which is filo dough filled with feta cheese and spinach. They also have Pide, which is an open bread shaped like an eye and ..read more

Festina Lente – Favorite workspot

Festina Lente is a cafe laid next to a peaceful canal in the city center. It is the classic ‘Bruine kroeg’ which is a term for cafes with a full-on wood interior: something very Dutch. If you would see the cafe at first, you would probably think it is a place where people drink beer on the weekends and thats it. However, this cafe has more to offer. In the mornings, they always have the same daily customers that come in for a coffee, a chat and to read one of the morning papers that are laid out in the windowsill. Usually after that, I come in with my backpack. I also order a coffee, but I don ..read more

White label coffee – Funky specialty coffee!

White Label Coffee is a coffee place with a really cool interior. As you can see in the picture, you walk in and see the cool light fixture and a table that is partly a desk space and party floor seating. Sometimes when I want to write, I will get a coffee here and sit on the floor. It is really nice to have that option I think. White Label Coffee is a roastery and a coffee place. They make their own blends that you can buy here as well. The coffee they use here for espresso is specialty coffee and is quite sour, which is meant to be that way. Just a warning, because you should not expect a cl ..read more

Bakkerij mediterrane – A staple among bakeries!

This bakery is an absolute staple! You can buy your basic pastries here, like croissants or a pain au chocolat. You can also go for some of their specialties, such as cookies made of nuts or bread filled with feta cheese and spinach. The owner works really hard and is there every day, seven days a week. He is always really kind, sincere, and in the mood for a good talk. Usually when I come here: the place is filled with regulars, enjoying a coffee and something sweet. The street the bakery is located on can be quite busy. However, if you walk in and see the regulars relaxing, you become relaxe ..read more

Bakkerij Ulmus – Sourdough bakery!

When this bakery opened back in 2021, I swear, it changed my life. I know that sounds dramatic, but their pastries are irresistible. The owners Elin and Yoeri started the bakery together as a couple and they are so kind. Elin makes all the cakes, croissants, and other pastries. Yoeri makes different types of bread. In the first year of the bakery, they had a baby together, so Elin would knead the dough with her son in the baby carrier. The bakery has an open floor plan, so you can see them work during the day, and if they have time they love to answer questions. Everything is sourdough based ..read more
