At Browserling and Online Tools, we ran an experiment to see if it was worth sending marketing emails on weekends.
It turned out weekends had very good open rates for personal email addresses (@gmail, @yahoo, @hotmail, @outlook, etc) but no open rates for business emails (all other non-@gmail etc addresses).
So from now on we're sending marketing emails to businesses only on weekdays but to everyone else we send marketing emails on all days of the week, including Saturdays and Sundays.

At Browserling and Online Tools, one simple trick changed our marketing email open rate from 20% to 60%.
This trick was to start sending the emails at the same hour the user last visited our website.
For example, if a user was last on our website at 3:43pm, then now we send the marketing emails to this user at around 3pm.
Before this trick, we were sending the emails at random times.
